- Power of attorney for vehicle registration matters (Germany)A power of attorney for the vehicle registration office in Germany (Zulassungsstelle): it lets someone else register a car for you, re-register it after a change of keeper, deregister it or change your address in the papers. It names the principal and the representative with dates of birth and addresses, the vehicle with its VIN and plate, the eVB insurance number and the matter, and is limited to that matter. Many registration offices offer their own form free; check your office's document list. In German, to print and sign by hand.
- Request to inspect and copy the medical record (Germany)The letter to a doctor's practice, hospital or therapist in Germany asking to inspect your treatment record (Behandlungsakte, formerly Patientenakte) and for a complete copy. It relies on § 630g of the German Civil Code (BGB) as in force since 6 February 2026 — the first copy is free, electronic ones included — and on Art. 15 GDPR with its one-month deadline. You choose a copy, or inspection and a copy, and how it is delivered. In German. Not for the electronic patient file (ePA) kept through the health insurer.
- Authority to collect an ID document and handle registration matters (Germany)The authority that lets someone else collect your new ID card or passport at the German citizens' office (Bürgeramt), register or deregister your address for you, or apply for and collect a registration certificate. With the statement that the PIN letter has arrived, without which an ID card is not handed to a representative. Some offices offer their own form free of charge; this one is an independently worded alternative. In German, under the German Civil Code (BGB); fill in, print, sign by hand and give the original to your representative.
- Application to a bank ombudsman or conciliation body (Germany)An application for conciliation when your German bank or Sparkasse has not resolved your complaint — to the Ombudsman of the private banks, the conciliation body of the savings banks' association (DSGV) or a regional one, the BVR's complaints office for cooperative banks, or the conciliation body at the Deutsche Bundesbank. It names the bank, the contract, your complaint and its outcome, sets out the dispute and the sum claimed, and makes the usual declarations. With the private banks' Ombudsman the procedure is free for consumers, and the decision binds the bank up to €10,000. In German.
- Private used car sale contract (Germany)A contract for selling a used car or motorcycle between private individuals in Germany, under the German Civil Code (BGB). The exclusion of liability for defects is worded the way German courts uphold it: it does not cover fraud or a guarantee (§ 444 BGB), nor the seller's statements on mileage, accident damage, previous keepers and known defects, which stand in a section of their own. It also records the check of the registration certificate Part II, the date and hour of handover, retention of title, re-registration and the notice of sale. In German, for both parties to print and sign.
- Application for a tax clearance certificate (Germany)Your application to the German tax office (Finanzamt) for a certificate on your tax affairs (Bescheinigung in Steuersachen), often called a tax clearance certificate — asked for in public tenders, for a restaurant licence and other trade permits, and by banks. It shows whether any tax is in arrears and whether returns have been filed, as at the day it is issued. The letter gives the tax number, the purpose and the date by which you need the certificate. No official form is required; post it or send it through ELSTER. In German.
- Request to convert an account into a garnishment-protected P-Konto (Germany)A letter asking your German bank or Sparkasse to run your current account as a garnishment-protected account (Pfändungsschutzkonto, P-Konto) — possible at any time, even when the account is overdrawn or already garnished (§ 850k of the German Code of Civil Procedure, ZPO). The bank must switch at the latest from the fourth business day after the request, and protection applies retroactively if you ask within a month of the garnishment. It includes the assurance that you hold no other P-Konto and covers the certificate of higher amounts (§ 903 ZPO). Since 1 July 2026, €1,590 a month is protected; the figure changes every 1 July. In German.
- Application for a care level (Germany)The application to a German long-term care insurer (Pflegekasse) for care-insurance benefits and the assessment that sets a care level (Pflegegrad) — for yourself or, with a power of attorney or a carer's card from the court, for someone else. An informal application is enough, but only a written one proves the date from which benefits run (§ 33 of Book XI of the Social Code, SGB XI). It flags the shorter deadlines after a hospital stay or announced care leave, and adds a ready letter claiming €70 per week begun if the insurer misses its 25 working days. In German.
- Application to the health insurer to cover or refund costs (Germany)The application asking a German statutory health insurer (Krankenkasse) to pay for treatment, a medical aid or another service — before treatment, as a request for cost cover with the three-, five- or six-week decision deadline of § 13(3a) of Book V of the Social Code (SGB V), or afterwards, as a claim for reimbursement where the insurer missed the deadline, could not provide urgent care in time or wrongly refused it. In German, with no diagnosis in the letter: the enclosed prescription gives the medical reasons.
- Complaint about medical treatment (Germany)One letter for four routes after treatment in Germany you are unhappy with or suspect was faulty: a complaint to the practice or hospital itself, a professional-conduct complaint to the regional medical chamber (Landesärztekammer), an application to the chamber's expert or mediation board (Gutachterkommission or Schlichtungsstelle), and a request to the health insurer for support under § 66 of Book V of the Social Code (SGB V). With the facts, the route you choose and, if you wish, a release from medical confidentiality. In German, for every Land.
- Inventory of the spouses' starting assets (Germany)A joint list, drawn up by both spouses in Germany, of what each owned and owed on the wedding day, plus inheritances and gifts received during the marriage, with values. Under § 1377 of the German Civil Code (BGB), an inventory the spouses draw up together, dated and signed by both, is presumed correct between them; without one, everything a spouse owns at the end is presumed to be gain when the gains are equalised on divorce. No notary needed. Separate property or another regime needs a notarised marriage contract, which this is not. In German.
- Defect notice with rent reduction (Germany)The letter a tenant in Germany uses to report a defect in the rented flat — mould, a heating failure, water damage, broken windows — and to claim a rent reduction. Reporting is a duty: without it the reduction is lost to the extent the landlord could have fixed the defect (§ 536c of the German Civil Code, BGB). The letter describes the defect, sets a deadline for repair, bases the reduction on the gross rent, lets the tenant choose between paying in full under reservation (the safer route) and paying less at once, and announces set-off under § 556b(2) BGB. In German, to print, sign and send.
- Application for exam adjustments at university for a disability or chronic illness (Germany)The application to a German university's examination board for exam adjustments (Nachteilsausgleich) for a student with a disability or chronic illness: more time, breaks, a separate room, technical aids or another form of exam, without lowering the standard. Exam regulations must take the needs of disabled students into account (§ 16, fourth sentence, of the German Higher Education Framework Act, HRG). It gives the student number, the programme, the exams concerned, how the impairment affects them and the adjustments requested, with a medical certificate enclosed. If your university has its own form, use it or attach this letter. In German.
- Package holiday claim after your return: price reduction and damages (Germany)The claim letter to the tour organiser after a defective package holiday, under the German Civil Code (BGB). You set out the defects and how you reported them on the spot, calculate the price reduction (§ 651m BGB), claim the cost of remedies you arranged yourself and other damage — where the holiday was seriously impaired, compensation for wasted holiday time too (§ 651n BGB) — and set a payment deadline. Claims expire two years after the agreed end of the trip (§ 651j BGB); the old one-month deadline is gone. In German.
- Complaint to an electricity or gas supplier (Germany)A consumer complaint to your electricity or gas supplier in Germany — a wrong bill, excessive instalments, a meter reading not taken over, a missing bonus or a termination left unconfirmed. The letter gives customer number, meter number and supply address, describes the problem, asks for a remedy and points to the four-week statutory deadline for an answer (§ 111a of the German Energy Industry Act, EnWG). If it fails, it is the precondition for a free application to the energy conciliation body, the Schlichtungsstelle Energie (§ 111b EnWG). Not for water or district heating. In German.
- Asking your bank to refund a direct debit or cancel a standing order (Germany)A letter to your German bank or Sparkasse to refund a direct debit, stop a debit that has been announced, refuse a payee's future debits, or cancel a standing order. A SEPA core direct debit can be reclaimed within eight weeks of the debit with no reason given (§ 675x of the German Civil Code, BGB), and a debit taken without a valid mandate up to 13 months later (§§ 675u, 676b BGB). A standing order or an announced debit can be revoked until the end of the business day before it is carried out (§ 675p BGB). With the payee, mandate reference, amount and date. In German.
- Application to the energy conciliation body, Schlichtungsstelle Energie (Germany)An application for conciliation to the Schlichtungsstelle Energie e.V. in Berlin, for when your electricity or gas supplier, network operator or meter operator in Germany rejected your complaint or did not answer within four weeks (§§ 111a and 111b of the German Energy Industry Act, EnWG). The procedure is free for consumers and the company must take part. The letter sets out the dispute, your earlier complaint, the company's answer and what you want, and states that no court is involved. The body also offers its own free online and paper form; this letter is the informal alternative by post or e-mail. In German.
- Notice of defects on a package holiday, given on the spot (Germany)The written notice of defects you hand to the tour rep or the tour organiser while still on holiday, under the German Civil Code (BGB). It lists the defects with dates, demands a remedy by a deadline and says you will otherwise arrange one yourself and claim the cost (§ 651k BGB). Without timely notice you lose the price reduction and damages to the extent a remedy was possible (§ 651o BGB). With a space for the rep to confirm receipt. The claim after you return is a separate document. In German.
- Refund of an unauthorised payment or card chargeback — letter to your bank (Germany)Your letter to your own bank in Germany when your account or card was charged without your consent — after card fraud or phishing, say. You dispute the transactions and demand the refund, which the bank must make by the end of the next business day at the latest (§ 675u of the German Civil Code, BGB). Report without delay and at most 13 months after the debit (§ 676b BGB). If you paid by card yourself but received nothing, the letter instead asks for a chargeback under the card scheme's rules. With the blocking date and the police report. In German.
- Freedom of information request (Germany)The request for access to official information held by a German authority — files, contracts, reports, e-mails or answers to questions: under the Federal Freedom of Information Act (IFG) from federal bodies, under the Land's freedom-of-information or transparency act from Land and municipal bodies, or under the Environmental Information Act (UIG) or the Consumer Information Act (VIG). You choose the act and the form of access; the letter asks for an answer within the statutory time limit, for notice of any fees in advance and for partial access rather than refusal. In German.
- Invoice with VAT under § 14 UStG (Germany)An invoice template with every particular § 14(4) of the German VAT Act (UStG) requires: both parties' names and addresses, tax number or VAT ID, invoice number and date, time of supply, quantity and type of goods or services, net amount, rate, tax and gross amount, plus payment terms and the default notice. On e-invoicing: between businesses in Germany a PDF is enough only until the end of 2026 (with the recipient's consent), and until the end of 2027 at up to €800,000 prior-year turnover; then an e-invoice is compulsory. To consumers a PDF stays allowed. In German.
- Request for a pupil's leave of absence from lessons (Germany)The written request to a school's head in Germany to grant a pupil leave from lessons for an important reason, such as a family event that cannot be moved. It gives the name, class, dates, reason and evidence, states that the leave is not for extending the holidays, and asks for a written decision before it starts. Each Land's school law decides who grants leave and how early to apply; you choose the Land on the form. Missing school without permission to extend the holidays can lead to a fine. In German, ready to print, sign and hand in.
- Objection to a decision of the health or care insurer (Germany)The objection (Widerspruch) to a decision of your German statutory health or long-term care insurer (Krankenkasse or Pflegekasse) — for instance refusing treatment, a medical aid or rehabilitation, or setting too low a care level. With the decision's date, the reference, your reasons and a request to see the file, so you can add to the reasons once you have read the expert opinion. To print, sign and post: under § 84 of the Social Courts Act (SGG) a plain e-mail is not a valid objection. Deadline: one month. In German.
- Claim to a childcare place: nursery or all-day primary care (Germany)The letter to the local youth welfare office (Jugendamt) by which parents in Germany claim their child's right to a childcare place under § 24 of Book VIII of the German Social Code (SGB VIII): a nursery place or a childminder from the first birthday and — new since 1 August 2026 — all-day care for children who start Year 1 from the 2026/2027 school year. It gives the start date, the hours needed and the places already tried, and asks for confirmation of receipt and a written decision. The dated letter is the proof that counts if no place is found. In German, ready to print, sign and hand in.
