Full and final settlement agreement to end a dispute (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English
For two people or businesses who have agreed to end a dispute — over money, goods, work done, damage or a deposit — by one paying the other an agreed sum. The agreement records the payment and when it is due, that once paid it settles all claims about the dispute, that neither side admits liability, and that each bears its own costs. It is not for a dispute with an employer: an employee's claims are settled only by an agreement made after independent advice, or through Acas. Both sign it; each keeps a copy.
Freelance consultancy agreement (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English
For a client and a self-employed consultant or freelancer in England and Wales, working on their own account or through their own limited company. The agreement covers the services, fees and invoices, expenses, the right to send a substitute, who owns the work, confidentiality, liability, ending the contract and the off-payroll working rules (IR35) for medium and large clients. Its wording does not decide employment or tax status, which follows how the work is actually done, so each party should take advice if the status is unclear.
Mutual non-disclosure agreement (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English
For two businesses or individuals in England and Wales about to share confidential information before a deal, a joint project, an investment or a supplier relationship. Each party agrees to keep the other's information confidential, use it only for the stated purpose, share it only with people who need to know it, and return or destroy it on request, for the number of years chosen. It keeps the usual exceptions and allows reports to the police and protected disclosures. Governed by the law of England and Wales.
Loan agreement between family or friends (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English
For two private individuals — relatives, friends, a couple — lending money to each other, with or without interest. The agreement records the amount and when it was paid over, the interest if any, the final repayment date or monthly instalments, and what happens if a payment is missed. A loan between private people, not made in the course of a business, needs no FCA authorisation, falls outside most of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 and needs no registration or stamp duty. Both sign it, and each keeps a signed copy.
Business-to-business services agreement (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English
For a business in England and Wales that provides services to another business: consultancy, design, maintenance, marketing or IT support. The agreement sets out the services, the fees, invoicing and payment within an agreed period, who owns the work produced, confidentiality, data protection, a cap on liability, notice to end it and the law of England and Wales. Late payment carries statutory interest. Both businesses sign. For an individual freelancer, the freelance consultancy agreement fits better.
Contract of employment with written statement of particulars (Great Britain)
England and Wales · in English
For an employer in England, Wales or Scotland taking on an employee on a permanent contract: a contract that is also the written statement of employment particulars under section 1 of the Employment Rights Act 1996, which every employee and worker must have on or before their first day. It sets out the job, place of work, pay, hours, at least 5.6 weeks' holiday, sick pay, pension enrolment, notice and where the disciplinary and grievance rules are. Acas publishes free written-statement templates. Signed by both; each keeps a copy.
Cohabitation agreement for a couple living together (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English
For an unmarried couple who live together, or are about to: a written agreement on how you share the rent or mortgage and bills, what each of you owns, joint accounts and debts, and what happens to your belongings if you separate. There is no ‘common-law marriage’, so the law gives cohabitants far fewer claims than spouses. Each of you should take independent legal advice before signing; who owns the home stays as the title and any declaration of trust say.
Parenting plan for separated parents (England and Wales)
England and Wales · in English · for parents
For separated parents who have agreed how to bring up their children: where the children live, time with each parent, school holidays and special days, handovers, decisions about school and health, and how you will talk and settle disagreements. It is an agreement between you, not a court order. Cafcass publishes a free parenting plan and guidance, the first place to look; each of you should take independent advice if unsure about any part.
Agreement changing a contract of employment for hybrid or home working (Great Britain)
England and Wales · in English
For an employer and an employee in England, Wales or Scotland who agree that the employee will work partly or wholly from home: a signed variation of the contract setting out the pattern of days, the start date, equipment, any contribution to costs, workstation safety, data security, an optional trial period and how the arrangement can be reviewed or ended. Everything else in the contract stays the same. Signed by both; each keeps a copy.
Employee confidentiality agreement (Great Britain)
England and Wales · in English
For an employer and an employee in England, Wales or Scotland: an agreement that the employee keeps the employer's confidential information secret during and after the employment, keeps it secure and returns it on leaving. It states plainly what it cannot stop — whistleblowing, reporting a crime, the disclosures a victim of crime may make, speaking about harassment, discrimination or pay — and contains no non-compete or other restriction after the job ends. Signed by both.
Private car sale agreement and receipt (UK)
England and Wales · in English
For two private people in the UK selling and buying a used car, van or motorbike. It records the vehicle, the price, the time the keys changed hands, the mileage and the faults the seller knows of, and has a receipt for the money. Selling “as seen” does not let a seller misdescribe the car. A private sale needs no tax and no form: the seller tells DVLA online the same day and gives the buyer the green new keeper slip from the log book (V5C). Both sign; each keeps a copy.
Fixed-term contract of employment (Great Britain)
England and Wales · in English
For an employer in England, Wales or Scotland taking someone on for a set period — maternity cover, a season, a project: a contract with an end date that is also the written statement of particulars the law requires on or before the first day. It includes the protection of the Fixed-term Employees Regulations 2002, the four-year rule for successive contracts and early termination by notice. Each party should take advice before signing. Signed by both; each keeps a copy.
Agreement to lower or keep the rent after a rent increase notice (England)
England · in English
For a private landlord and tenant in England. Since 1 May 2026 a landlord can raise the rent only by a notice on Form 4A under section 13 of the Housing Act 1988, once a year, with at least two months’ notice, and the tenant may refer it to the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) before the new rent starts. Instead, the two of you can agree a rent lower than the notice proposes, or keep the current rent — or agree to reduce the rent at any time. This agreement records which, from what date, signed by both. It never sets a rent above the one the notice proposes, or above the current rent where there is no notice.
