This document is in Greek

The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

The text in which someone living in Greece invites and hosts a person applying for a visa at a Greek consulate. Consulates accept it only as a solemn declaration (ypefthyni dilosi) under Law 1599/1986, with the host's signature authenticated or issued on gov.gr, and with the details they ask for: both people's names, addresses, dates of birth, passport numbers and occupations, the purpose, the dates, and the costs the host covers, which the host chooses. The gov.gr declaration is free: paste this text into it, or sign the PDF and certify the signature at a KEP or on docs.gov.gr.

Common questions

How can the text of this invitation be used on gov.gr at no cost?
The solemn declaration is issued free on gov.gr with TAXISnet credentials: name the consulate as recipient, paste your occupation and sections B to D of this document into the free-text box and confirm with the code sent by SMS. Alternatively, sign the PDF and have the signature authenticated at a KEP (citizens' service centre), or certify it on docs.gov.gr — but ask the consulate first whether it takes that form. DocMuse provides the wording, not the state's form.
What details do Greek consulates want in a declaration of hospitality?
Both people's names, addresses, dates of birth, passport or ID numbers and occupations, the purpose of the visit, the arrival and departure dates, and which costs the host takes on. The declaration is one of the supporting documents of the visa application; each consulate's list may ask for others, so check it before applying.
Why is the choice of costs the host covers not filled in in advance?
Because a solemn declaration binds whoever signs it: a knowingly false one is punished with at least three months' imprisonment (art. 22(6) of Greek Law 1599/1986). So the document suggests no answer; the host chooses whether they take on accommodation, food, tickets, all of these or none, according to what they will actually pay for.
Where is the signature authenticated, now that some consulates still mention the police?
At any KEP (citizens' service centre) or other administrative authority, on showing an ID card and free of charge. The Greek police have not authenticated signatures since Law 4937/2022, although some consulates' document lists still name them. A declaration issued on gov.gr is equivalent: it has the force of a signature authenticated in person.
