Objection to the insurer about the amount of a settlement

The PDF you download is in Bulgarian — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

For when the settlement offered falls short of what the repair actually costs. The objection identifies the claim, the figure you are objecting to, and the ground — a garage quotation, an independent valuation, items left out of the schedule. It also asks for a copy of the expert assessment the insurer relied on, since without it there is no way to contest a particular item.

Common questions

Can I object after I have already received the money?
Accepting payment is usually read as agreement with the amount, so object before accepting it. If the money has already arrived, state expressly in the objection that you are treating it as a part payment and that the dispute over the difference remains open.
Why ask for a copy of the expert assessment?
Because otherwise you are objecting to a single figure rather than to particular items. The assessment shows which parts were accepted for replacement, which only for repair, and at what prices — from there you can see what was left out or undervalued, and that can be contested.
What should I attach to the objection?
A garage quotation or invoice, photographs of the damage, and an independent valuation if you have one. An objection with no counter-figure rarely leads to a review — the insurer has nothing to compare its own against.
What follows if the insurer refuses?
First there has to be a written refusal — an oral one cannot be appealed. From there the route runs to the regulator or the courts, but the objection to the insurer itself is the step that creates the document everything else rests on.
