- Notice to the employer of sick leave (Cyprus)The written notice in which an employee in Cyprus tells the employer they are off sick: from when, until when the absence is expected to last, which doctor is issuing the medical certificate and whether it is enclosed or will follow. It promises no pay for the first three days, for which no sickness benefit is paid, and asks for it only if the employment contract or a collective agreement provides for it. From the fourth day, sickness benefit is paid by Social Insurance.
- Notice of withdrawal from an online or distance purchase (Cyprus)A consumer's notice in Cyprus withdrawing from a purchase made online, by phone or away from the trader's premises, within 14 days and without giving a reason, under the Consumer Protection Law of 2021. It identifies the order, asks for every payment back, standard delivery included, within 14 days, gives an IBAN and announces the return of the goods. Since 19 June 2026 online shops must also offer a withdrawal button; this letter works alongside it and leaves a written record.
- Refund demand after a failed repair (Cyprus)A Cypriot consumer's written demand when the repair or replacement of a faulty product was not done, failed or was refused: it asks for a price reduction, or ends the sale and asks for the whole price back, under Law 154(I)/2021. It sets out the history of the complaint, picks the ground the Law provides, states the amount and the account, and gives 14 days to pay before the Consumer Protection Service and the court.
- Cancelling a standing order or direct debit (Cyprus)A written cancellation, sent to a bank in Cyprus, of a standing order or a direct debit from your account. It names the account, the payee and the mandate or reference number, asks that nothing be debited from the date you set and that the cancellation be confirmed in writing, and is copied to the payee, because a direct debit mandate is cancelled with the payee too. An authorised direct debit can be refunded if asked within 8 weeks, and an unauthorised one within 13 months.
- Final demand for payment before legal action (Cyprus)A creditor's last written demand in Cyprus to a debtor who has not paid, before a claim in the District Court. It states the sum in figures and words, what it is for, the document behind it and the due date, with the documents attached, gives a number of days to pay into a bank account, asks for a written reply within 14 days, as the Civil Procedure Rules require before a claim for a sum of money, leaves room for a written instalment agreement and warns of legal action with interest and costs. In Cyprus a demand is a letter: it is sent by registered post or by hand against a signature.
- Demand for unpaid wages (Cyprus)A written demand by an employee or former employee in Cyprus to the employer for wages that have not been paid: the job, the salary, the unpaid periods and the amount owed, with seven days to pay into a bank account, the documents attached and a request for a written reply within 14 days. It warns that, if unpaid, a written complaint to the Department of Labour Relations under the Protection of Wages Law and a claim before the Labour Disputes Court will follow, or, above two years' wages, before the District Court, for which it is also the letter of claim the Civil Procedure Rules require. It is sent by registered post or by hand.
- Notice of a rent increase (Cyprus)A Cypriot landlord's written notice of a new rent for a home, with the current and new amounts and the date it applies from, and room for the tenant to accept. It is written for three cases: an increase the lease provides for; an increase in a statutory tenancy under the Rent Control Law, once every two years, up to the capped percentage, which is 6% for 22 April 2025 – 21 April 2027, or more where the rent is below 90% of the average for the area, and, if the tenant does not accept it, by order of the Rent Control Court; or a new rent as a condition of renewal, which applies only if the tenant accepts it.
- Request to close a bank account (Cyprus)A written request from the account holder to a bank in Cyprus to end the account agreement and close a bank account. It gives the account's IBAN, the closing date and the account the balance goes to, and asks the bank to cancel the cards and end standing orders and direct debits, refund prepaid fees pro rata and confirm the closure in writing. The Payment Services Directive, in force in Cyprus through Law 31(I)/2018, lets a consumer end the agreement at any time, with at most one month's notice.
- Telecoms complaint and contract termination (Cyprus)A Cypriot subscriber's letter complaining to a mobile, landline, broadband or pay-TV provider and ending the contract: after the initial commitment period, because the provider changed the terms, because of repeated poor service, or early, with a request for a breakdown of any charge. It asks for billing to stop, arranges the return of equipment and warns of a referral to the Office of the Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation (OCECPR).
- Demand for the return of a deposit (Cyprus)A former tenant's written demand to a landlord in Cyprus for a deposit that has not been returned. It refers to the lease, the amount of the deposit and the date the home was handed back, states that no rent is owed and there is no damage beyond ordinary wear, and gives 14 days to pay into a bank account before going to court. It encloses the documents and asks for a written reply within 14 days, as the Civil Procedure Rules require before a claim for a sum of money. It is sent by registered post so that the sending can be proved.
- Payment demand between businesses (Cyprus)The letter by which a business in Cyprus demands that another pay overdue invoices: the basis of the debt, the list of invoices, the principal, late-payment interest, compensation for recovery costs, a deadline and the account to pay into. Under Law 123(I)/2012, interest at the ECB reference rate plus eight percentage points and the flat €40 compensation are due without any reminder. It also serves as the letter of claim the Civil Procedure Rules require before a claim for a sum of money, giving 14 days for a written reply. It is sent by registered post or by hand against a signature; if it goes unanswered, a claim in the District Court follows.
- Resignation letter (Cyprus)The letter by which an employee in Cyprus resigns and ends the employment contract. It states the notice in weeks and the last working day, asks for the sums due with the final pay and for a certificate of employment, and leaves room for the employer to sign for receipt. Under the Termination of Employment Law the employee owes less notice than the employer: one week after 26 weeks' service, two after 52 and three after 260, and none during probation.
- Ending a gym membership (Cyprus)A gym member's written notice in Cyprus ending the membership: under the contract's termination clause, at the end of the term without renewal, for health reasons or a move, because the gym no longer provides what was agreed, or by withdrawing within 14 days when the membership was bought online. It asks for card or direct debit charges to stop and for anything prepaid to be refunded, and refuses any penalty the contract does not clearly provide for.
- Tenant's notice ending a tenancy (Cyprus)The written notice by which a tenant of a home in Cyprus ends the tenancy: under the lease's break clause, with the notice an open-ended tenancy requires, at the end of the agreed term, or as an offer to end it by agreement where the lease gives no other way out. It sets the end date and the date the home is handed back, asks for the deposit to be returned to a bank account, and is sent by registered post or by hand, so that what was sent and when can be proved.
- Motor accident claim to an insurer (Cyprus)A written claim by which someone harmed in a road accident in Cyprus asks for compensation directly from the at-fault vehicle's insurer, or from the Motor Insurers' Fund where that vehicle was uninsured or untraced. It describes the accident, both vehicles, the damage and the amount, asks for a claim number, a reasoned offer or reply, an inspection of the vehicle and payment to an IBAN, and reserves the right to go to court. It is sent by registered post or delivered against a signature; to the Fund it goes with the Fund's own claim form.
- Landlord's notice ending a tenancy and demanding possession (Cyprus)A Cypriot landlord's written notice ending the tenancy of a home and demanding possession back: at the end of the agreed term, with the notice an open-ended tenancy requires, or for unpaid rent, with 21 days to pay. It is written for both regimes: in a statutory tenancy, the notice of arrears is the one the Rent Control Law requires before an application to the Rent Control Court; in any other, it opens the way to the District Court.
- Parent's note justifying a pupil's absence (Cyprus)The note in which a parent or guardian of a pupil at a school in Cyprus justifies the child's absence in writing: the dates, the class, the reason (illness, a medical appointment or a serious family reason) and whether a doctor's certificate is attached. In a primary school, more than five days' absence for health reasons needs a doctor's certificate unless the head is satisfied otherwise. In a gymnasium or lyceum, the note is handed in on the pupil's return and within five working days at the latest, two in May and June.
