Sitting a resit is applied for in advance and within the deadline — being entered on the examination record follows from an application, not from turning up in the hall. Give the subject, the examiner and the session exactly as they appear in the curriculum, because a mismatch is the commonest reason an application comes back. Check too whether a fee is payable.

Common questions
- Can I sit the examination without having applied?
- As a rule no. Being entered on the examination record follows from an application, not from being in the hall — a student not on the record sits an examination that cannot afterwards be recorded.
- Is a fee payable?
- For resit and final-attempt sessions a fee is often payable, differing between institutions. Check before filing — a fee paid after the deadline does not always allow you to sit.
- Why do I have to give the subject exactly?
- Because the application is checked against the curriculum. A mismatch in the name or the semester is the commonest reason an application comes back, with the deadline passing in the meantime.
- How many times can I sit it?
- The number of attempts is capped by the institution's rules, and once they are used up a different route applies — an equivalence examination, repeating the year, or interrupting studies. Check where you stand before missing another session.
