A place in after-school provision is at the parent's request and is applied for in writing, usually before the school year starts, because whether a group is formed at all depends on how many applications come in. The application states from which date, until what time, and who will be collecting the child — the last matters, because a teacher will not release a child to anyone not on the list.

- Is after-school provision compulsory?
- No, joining is at the parent's wish and is applied for in writing. The school forms the groups according to how many applications come in, though, so a late application may find no group.
- Why do I have to list who can collect the child?
- Because a teacher will not release a child to anyone not on the list. That is the practical point of the field — a grandmother who is not named will be turned away, however obvious the relationship.
- Can the child stay only on some days?
- Yes, if that is applied for. Hence the field for days of the week — partial attendance is ordinary and is planned in advance rather than decided in the morning.
- Can I withdraw part-way through the year?
- Usually yes, by written application. Check whether a notice period has been agreed or a fee paid for the period before relying on the withdrawal taking effect at once.
