This step is free on the online office of Spain's traffic authority (DGT); you do not need DocMuse for it. For anyone who has received a traffic fine in Spain from the DGT, a town hall, Catalonia's traffic service or the Basque Government and disagrees: objections (alegaciones) to the fine notice within 20 calendar days, or an appeal for reconsideration against the penalty within one month (arts. 95 and 96 of the Spanish Traffic Act). Paying with the 50 % discount within those 20 days closes the case and gives up the objection. Filed with the body that fined you, online, at a registry or a post office; companies must file online. In Spanish.

Common questions
- Pay the Spanish fine at a discount or object to it?
- If you pay within 20 calendar days of notification, the fine is halved, the case ends and any objections are treated as not filed; only an action before the administrative courts would remain (art. 94 of the Spanish Traffic Act). If you object and do not pay within those 20 days, you lose the discount; if you win, you pay nothing. If you neither pay nor object, for minor offences, serious ones without loss of points and those notified on the spot, the notice becomes the penalty and can be collected after 30 days (art. 95.4).
- Who receives the objection to a Spanish traffic fine, and how?
- The body named on the notice: the DGT on interurban roads, the town hall on city streets, Catalonia's Servei Català de Trànsit and the Basque Government's traffic directorate in their regions. The DGT lets you file it free on its online office with Cl@ve; a registry office or a Spanish post office as official mail also works. The DGT never notifies by e-mail: it uses post, its electronic road address (DEV) or the official notice board. A town hall or regional authority with a co-official language must also accept documents in it.
- What if the appeal against the Spanish fine is rejected?
- The appeal is decided within a month; with no answer it counts as rejected (art. 96 of the Spanish Traffic Act). After that, only an action before the administrative section of the court of first instance remains, which this document does not cover. The appeal does not suspend collection: to avoid paying meanwhile, ask for suspension in the same document; if it is not decided within a month, it counts as refused. Facts or documents you could have produced earlier and did not are not taken into account.
