The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.
The receipt in which someone in Greece who takes money from a private person confirms it: who paid and who received, the sum in figures and words, what it was for, the date and method of payment, and whether it settles the whole debt or is paid on account, with the balance. A debtor who pays is entitled to a written receipt and, on paying the whole debt, to the return of the debt document (art. 424 of the Greek Civil Code). It goes with the loan agreement, the acknowledgment of debt and the settlement.

Common questions
- Is a debtor who pays in Greece entitled to a receipt?
- Yes. A debtor who pays can ask the creditor for a written receipt for what was paid, and on paying the whole debt can also ask for the debt document back — the loan agreement, for example (art. 424 ff. of the Greek Civil Code). For a cash payment the receipt is often the only proof the debt was paid.
- Is a receipt needed in Greece when payment is made by bank transfer?
- Usually not, since the transfer confirmation, with a reference naming the debt, proves the payment, and in practice the Greek tax administration accepts bank records as proof. A receipt helps when the transfer does not show which debt it pays, or when the parties want to confirm that the payment closes the whole debt.
- How can a Greek receipt be signed without visiting a citizen service centre?
- The person receiving the money can upload the PDF, up to 5 MB, to the free “digital certification of a document” service on docs.gov.gr and sign it with their Taxisnet credentials and a one-time code sent to their mobile. The certification has the same force as a signature authenticated at a KEP, without being a qualified electronic signature, and the payer can check it with the code printed on every page.
