Receipt for documents handed over
For every time you leave originals with someone else — an accountant, a lawyer, an employer, a bank, an agent. The receipt lists the documents one by one, marks which are originals and which copies, and gives a date for their return. An original handed over without a receipt is later chased with no evidence that it was ever handed over at all.
Receipt for a discharged debt
The document a debtor should ask for at the moment of the final payment, and then keep. The receipt identifies which obligation has been discharged, with what sum, and that the creditor has no further claim under it. Without one, a debt that has been paid goes on existing on paper — including if the creditor assigns it to someone else.
Receipt for a returned deposit
The document that closes a tenancy. The receipt shows the deposit that was paid, the sums withheld and the ground for each, and states expressly whether any claims remain. If a landlord withholds part of a deposit without setting that out, the argument afterwards is conducted with no record from either side.
Rent receipt
Rent paid in cash without a receipt cannot be proved. The receipt certifies which period was paid for, how much of it was rent and how much utilities, and that the obligations for that period are discharged. It is issued by the landlord on taking the money and kept by the tenant.
Receipt for money received
Written evidence that a sum has been paid and received — on a private sale, a deposit, rent or a loan. It is completed by the person receiving the money and signed as the money changes hands.
