It has the space for the €2 revenue stamp due on receipts over €77.47, bought at a tobacconist's. The landlord issues it at the tenant's request. In Italian.

Common questions

Must an Italian landlord give a receipt for rent?
Yes, if the tenant asks: art. 1199 of the Italian Civil Code obliges a creditor who receives payment to give a receipt at the debtor's request, and at the debtor's expense. The receipt states who pays, who receives, the amount, the period and the property, and proves payment even when there is no bank record. It may cover one month or several together.
Does a rent receipt in Italy need a revenue stamp?
Yes, if the amount exceeds €77.47: receipts for sums not subject to VAT, such as a private landlord's rent, bear stamp duty of €2 (art. 13 of the tariff annexed to Italian Presidential Decree no. 642 of 26 October 1972). The stamp is bought at a tobacconist's and stuck in the space at the top. If the landlord has chosen the cedolare secca, which replaces stamp duty on the lease, the Agenzia delle Entrate says free of charge whether it is also due on receipts. From 1 January 2027 stamp duty moves into the new consolidated tax code, with no announced change in the amount.
Is a rent receipt needed in Italy if I pay by bank transfer?
A bank transfer already proves payment if the reference gives the month and the property; the receipt adds a statement signed by the landlord linking the amount to the lease and the period, which helps for your own records or for a procedure asking for proof of rent paid. When payment is made by other means, the receipt is often the only written proof. A receipt does not replace registration of the lease.
