Marketing calls, messages and letters stop on an objection under Article 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation. Unlike the other rights, there is no balancing here and no exceptions: on an objection to direct marketing, processing for that purpose ends. The document lists the channels separately, because unsubscribing from the newsletter does not stop the phone calls.

Common questions

Can they weigh up whether to accept the objection?
No. With direct marketing there is no balancing — processing for that purpose ends. That is what sets it apart from the other objections, where interests are weighed.
I unsubscribed from the newsletter and they still ring me. Why?
Because the channels are kept separately. Unsubscribing from email does not stop phone calls and letters. That is why the objection lists the channels expressly and covers all of them at once.
Will their partners stop as well?
Only if the controller tells them, which is why the request asks for that expressly. Your data have often been passed to third parties who have no way of knowing about your objection unless someone tells them.
Do I have to stop being their customer?
The objection does not end the contract and does not stop messages about the service itself — bills, disconnection notices, changes to terms. It stops advertising messages only.
