Needed by photographers, agencies, schools and event organisers — the image of an identifiable person is personal data, and using it for advertising or publication requires consent. The declaration sets out where and for how long the material will be used, whether there is a fee, and whether the person will be named. For a child it is signed by a parent.

Common questions
- Is consent needed for a photograph taken in a public place?
- A wide shot in a public setting is one thing; using an identifiable person for advertising is quite another. For the second, consent is effectively necessary regardless of where the photograph was taken.
- How does this work for children?
- Consent is given by a parent or guardian, not by the child. That is why the declaration has a field for the capacity in which it is signed — a signature by the child itself will not do.
- Can the person withdraw consent after publication?
- They can withdraw it for the future, but material already printed and copies already distributed do not come back. That is why the period and the ways the image may be used are agreed in advance rather than left open.
- Why write down what is not allowed?
- Because consent for a portfolio is not consent for a billboard, and still less for advertising a third party's product. What is expressly excluded is what saves both sides an awkward conversation later.
