Request to attend a school outside the catchment area (Austria)
The parents' request for their child to attend a public compulsory school — a Volksschule or Mittelschule, for instance — outside the catchment area (Schulsprengel) the child belongs to. The federal framework is § 13 of Austria's Compulsory Schools Maintenance Framework Act; each Land makes the rules: in some Länder the municipality of residence decides, the consent of the body maintaining the chosen school is required, and the deadline falls early in the year. With the Land, the child, the main residence, the chosen school, the reasons and the consent. In German, ready to print and sign.
Request for exam adjustments at school for a disability (Austria)
The request to an Austrian school's head to take a pupil's disability or health condition into account in class tests (Schularbeiten), tests and exams — with more time, a separate room or an oral instead of a written form, say — without lowering the curriculum's standard. It rests on § 18 Abs 6 of the School Education Act (SchUG), applies in every Land and describes the effects, not the diagnosis; a medical or specialist report is enclosed. The Matura and dyslexia have rules of their own. For parents and adult pupils. In German.
Request for a formal decision under the Freedom of Information Act (Austria)
The second step when your request under Austria's Freedom of Information Act (IFG) was refused, answered only in part or not answered in time: the written request for a formal decision (Bescheid) on the refusal (§ 11(1) IFG). The authority must decide within two months, and only that decision can be appealed to the administrative court. With the date of your request, the reply and your reasons. In German, ready to sign and send to the same body, by e-mail too.
Request for a copy or duplicate of a school report (Austria)
The written request to an Austrian school for a copy or a duplicate of a school report — the annual report, a leaving certificate or the Matura certificate (Reifeprüfungszeugnis) — when the original is lost, damaged or destroyed or another copy is needed. It gives the report, the school year, the years at the school, the date of birth and the name used at school, so the school can find its records. The school will tell you whether there is a charge; the letter asks, and asks who holds the records if the school no longer does. In German.
Application for an apostille (Austria)
The written request for an apostille on an Austrian public document — or for its legalisation for a country outside the Hague Convention. Who apostilles depends on who issued it: the Land (birth and marriage certificates, registration and criminal record certificates, for instance), the president of the regional court (court and notarial documents) or the Foreign Ministry. With the document, the country it is for and how it comes back. Where a Land has its own form, as Salzburg does, use that. In German, ready to print and sign.
Note excusing a pupil's absence from school (Austria)
The written note by which parents — or pupils of full age themselves — tell the class teacher in Austria why a pupil stayed away from lessons: with name and class, the days, the reason without a diagnosis and the day the school was told. Under Austria's Compulsory Schooling Act (§ 9 SchPflG) and School Education Act (§ 45 SchUG) the school must be told without delay, in writing if it asks — the same in every Land. For illness, a medical appointment that could not be moved or an urgent family matter. In German, ready to print and sign.
Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act (Austria)
The written request for information under Austria's Freedom of Information Act (IFG), which since 1 September 2025 has replaced official secrecy and the old duty-to-inform acts: to an authority of the federation, a Land or a municipality, or to a company audited by the Court of Audit. With the exact information you want, the form you want it in, and a reminder of the four-week deadline (§ 8 IFG). The request is free. If an authority refuses the information, the next step is the request for a formal decision — a separate document; against a company, an application goes straight to the administrative court. In German.
Request for a certificate of school attendance (Austria)
The written request to an Austrian school's office for a certificate of attendance (Schulbesuchsbestätigung) — for instance for the family allowance (Familienbeihilfe) of an adult child still in education, for which the Finanzamt Österreich asks for proof, or for an office abroad. It gives the pupil's name and date of birth, class and school year, who the certificate is for, the number of copies and the date it is needed by. For parents of pupils under 18 and for adult pupils themselves, for use in every Land. In German, ready to print, sign and hand in.
Request for a childcare place in Tirol (Austria)
The written request to the municipality of residence to find a childcare place for a child registered in Tirol, from the second birthday. Since the 2026/27 childcare year Tirol's Childcare and Education Act obliges the municipality to place every child registered in time whose main residence is there, in the municipality or within a reasonable distance. Registration itself is free on the Land's FRIDA platform; this letter does not replace it, but records with a date that you are claiming the place. Only Tirol has this right. In German.
Organisation's request and confirmation for the child-protection or care criminal record certificate (Austria)
The written request and confirmation, addressed to the person, that clubs, schools, nurseries, parishes, care providers and other employers issue for the special criminal record certificates Kinder- und Jugendfürsorge (work with children) or Pflege und Betreuung (care work) under Austria's Criminal Records Act (§ 10(1b) and (1d) StRegG): that the person needs it for a specific paid or volunteer activity mainly involving minors or the care of defenceless persons, and whether the work is voluntary (fee exemption). The Interior Ministry provides a model confirmation free of charge; this is a version of our own, as the organisation's letter. In German.
Application to block registration data from disclosure (Austria)
The application to the registration authority (Meldebehörde) to block your address from register enquiries (§ 18(2) of Austria's Registration Act, MeldeG): without a block, anyone who knows your name and a few other details can obtain your address. The block must be granted where you show a protectable interest to be credible — stalking, violence, threats or a well-founded fear of revenge, for instance — and lasts up to five years, even after you deregister. With your reasons, evidence and any children under 18. In German, ready to print and sign.
Application for a different exam method at university (Austria)
The application by a student with a disability for a different exam method at an Austrian university — an oral instead of a written exam, more time or a separate room, for instance. Under § 59 Abs 1 Z 12 of Austria's Universities Act (UG) there is a right to it where the disability makes the prescribed method impossible and the exam's content and standard stay the same. With student number, programme, exams, effects, the method asked for and evidence. Apply in good time; if your university has its own free form, as the University of Vienna does, use that. In German.
Invitation letter for a Schengen visa (Austria)
The letter in which you invite a relative, friend or business contact from a country whose nationals need a visa to visit you in Austria, addressed to the Austrian embassy or consulate-general: details of the person invited and of you, the purpose and dates of the visit, accommodation and costs. It is neither an electronic guarantee of costs (EVE), which you make in person and free of charge at the police if needed, nor a notarially certified declaration of liability (Haftungserklärung) under Austria's Settlement and Residence Act (NAG). In German.
Declaration of leaving a church or religious society (Austria)
The written declaration for leaving a church in Austria (Kirchenaustritt), to the district authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft) or Magistrat where you live, in Vienna the Magistratisches Bezirksamt: naming the church or religious society you are leaving, with your details and, if you wish, a request for confirmation. Leaving takes effect with the declaration to the authority, which informs the church. The declaration is free, and can also be made in person or on the form the authority provides free. From 14 you decide for yourself. In German, ready to print and sign.
Request for leave from lessons at a school (Austria)
The written request by which parents — or pupils of full age themselves — ask an Austrian school in advance to let a pupil stay away from lessons, for instance for a wedding or funeral in the family, therapy or a competition. For children of compulsory-school age, leave is granted only as far as strictly necessary: single lessons up to a day by the class teacher (Klassenvorstand), up to a week by the head, longer by the Land's education directorate (§ 9 Abs 6 SchPflG); past compulsory schooling, beyond a day by the head (§ 45 Abs 4 SchUG). Many schools post their own form free on their website — if yours requires it, use that. In German.
Application for a residence registration certificate (Austria)
The written request to the registration authority (Meldebehörde) for a certificate of residence registration under Austria's Registration Act (§ 19 MeldeG) — for your current registrations or, as a historical certificate, all earlier ones too. The usual route is online with ID Austria or EU Login from the central register; this letter is for anyone who cannot use that, is asking from abroad, or needs registrations before 1 March 2002 confirmed. With your details, former names and addresses. In German, ready to print and sign.
Application for care allowance – Pflegegeld (Austria)
The application for care allowance (Pflegegeld), or for a higher level of it, to the PVA, SVS, BVAEB or AUVA under Austria's Federal Care Allowance Act (BPGG) — with insurance number, pension received, treating doctor, the help needed in your own words, a person you trust for the assessment, and IBAN. Care allowance is due from the first of the month after the application arrives (§ 9 BPGG): the day it arrives counts. The insurers provide their own form free of charge, but an application without it is valid too. In German, to print, sign and send promptly.
Request for early admission to primary school (Austria)
The parents' written request to the head of an Austrian primary school (Volksschule) to admit a child not yet of compulsory-school age to the first year early — for children who turn six by 1 March of the following calendar year (§ 7 of the Compulsory Schooling Act, SchPflG, the same in every Land). It is made within the enrolment period; the school checks readiness for school and social skills by meeting the child and through a school doctor's report. With a choice on a school psychologist's report. Enrolment itself is in person; if the school has its own form, use that. In German.
Application to change a surname or first name (Austria)
Only for Austrian citizens, and for stateless people and refugees living in Austria: the written application for a change of name under Austria's Name Change Act (NÄG), to the district authority (Bezirkshauptmannschaft) or Magistrat where you live — in Vienna, municipal department MA 63: for the surname, the first name or both, with your details, the name you want and your reasons. In Austria, simply wishing for another surname is a ground of its own (§ 2(1) no. 11 NÄG). Returning to an earlier surname after a divorce is instead a declaration at the registry office. In German, ready to print and sign.
Request to see the medical record and for a copy (Austria)
The letter to a doctor's practice (Ordination) or hospital in Austria asking to see your medical record (ärztliche Dokumentation, Krankengeschichte) and for a complete copy — findings, doctors' letters, imaging, surgery and nursing reports. Since 30 July 2026 the first copy is free under the Austrian Physicians Act (§ 51 Abs 1 ÄrzteG 1998); for hospitals the letter relies on the Hospitals Act (§ 10 KAKuG), the Land's hospital act and Art 15 GDPR, under which the first copy is free too. Deadline: one month (Art 12(3) GDPR). You choose a copy, or inspection and a copy, and e-mail, post or collection. In German.
Notice of sick leave to the employer (Austria)
The written notice an employee in Austria gives the employer on going on sick leave (Krankenstand): when the incapacity began, how long it is expected to last and its cause — illness, accident, work accident or occupational disease — but never a diagnosis. Under the Austrian Salaried Employees Act (§ 8 Abs 8 AngG) and Continued Remuneration Act (§ 4 Abs 1 EFZG) the absence is reported without delay, and the confirmation of incapacity (Arbeitsunfähigkeitsbestätigung) shown when the employer asks. No form is prescribed: the letter is your proof. In German, ready to print and sign.
Notice of illness during holiday (Austria)
An employee in Austria who falls ill on holiday does not lose the days: if the illness lasts more than three calendar days, the days of incapacity are not counted against the holiday entitlement (§ 5 UrlG, the Austrian Holiday Act). The employer must be told without delay after three days, and a doctor's confirmation shown on returning to work. This letter records both, with the holiday dates and the start and expected length of the incapacity, without a diagnosis — and a choice for illness abroad, where an official confirmation or a hospital's confirmation is needed. In German.
Notice of care leave to the employer (Austria)
The notice telling an employer in Austria that you are taking care leave (Pflegefreistellung) under § 16 UrlG, the Austrian Holiday Act: to nurse a sick close relative or a sick member of your household, to look after your child when the person who normally cares for it is unavailable, or to stay with a child under ten in hospital. You choose whether this is the first week, the second week for a child under twelve who falls ill again or, once both are used, holiday taken without agreement (§ 16 Abs 3 UrlG). The employer keeps paying. No diagnosis. In German.
Application to protect a garnished bank account (Austria)
Your application to the enforcement court in Austria when your bank account has been garnished and your wages, salary, pension or other income that is only partly garnishable is paid into it. Austria has no special protected account: on your application the district court lifts the garnishment under § 292i EO as far as the balance matches the protected part of your income until the next pay date, and if asked, in advance for what you urgently need. With the case number, bank, IBAN, income and pay dates. By post, in person or through JustizOnline — not by e-mail; you can also apply orally at the court. In German.
