Request for a certificate of employment (Greece)

This document is in Greek

The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

The request in which an employee in Greece, when the contract ends, asks the employer for the certificate of employment under art. 678 of the Greek Civil Code, which serves as proof of previous service for a new employer. The certificate states the kind and length of the work, and the quality of the work and the employee's conduct only if the employee asks for that specifically — so the request lets you choose what it should state. One document does the work of both a certificate and a reference.

Common questions

What does a certificate of employment under art. 678 of the Greek Civil Code state?
The kind and length of the work. It covers the quality of the work and the employee's conduct only if the employee asks for that specifically. So the request lets you choose: kind and length only, or quality and conduct too, which then works like a reference with a legal basis.
When can an employee in Greece ask for a certificate of employment?
When the employment contract ends, however it ends: dismissal, resignation, mutual termination or the expiry of a fixed-term contract. The employer must issue it when asked, and the written request shows when it was asked for, should you need to claim it.
What use is a certificate of employment when the e-EFKA insurance record exists?
The e-EFKA insurance record shows days of insurance and employers, not what work you did. A new employer, or a body asking for experience in a particular specialty, needs proof of the kind of work, and a statement on quality and conduct can take the place of a reference letter.
