The agreement spouses in Bulgaria file with the district court together with their petition for divorce by mutual consent (Art. 50 and 51 of the Bulgarian Family Code). It settles what the law requires — where the children live, parental rights, contact and child maintenance, the use of the family home, maintenance between the spouses and surnames — and, if you wish, property. The court decides: the divorce is granted and the agreement approved only by a judgment of the district court, after it checks that the children's interests are protected. Both spouses appear in person. In Bulgarian.

Common questions
- Who decides whether the divorce agreement takes effect in Bulgaria?
- The district court. The agreement has no effect until the court grants the divorce and approves it in its judgment. The court checks that the children's interests are well protected (Art. 51(2) of the Bulgarian Family Code) and may tell you to change the agreement. The judgment granting a divorce by mutual consent is final (Art. 330 of the Civil Procedure Code).
- What must a Bulgarian divorce agreement under Art. 51 of the Family Code cover?
- If you have children under 18: where they will live, who exercises parental rights, contact with the other parent and child maintenance; in every case: the use of the family home, maintenance between the spouses and surnames (Art. 51(1) of the Bulgarian Family Code). You may settle property too, but need not. Maintenance for one child cannot be less than a quarter of the minimum wage (Art. 142(2)).
- Where is the petition for divorce by mutual consent filed in Bulgaria, and is a lawyer needed?
- Both spouses file one joint petition with the district court for the permanent address of either of them, enclosing this agreement, the marriage certificate and the children's birth certificates. The law does not require a lawyer. A court fee is paid under the tariff of the Civil Procedure Code, and it is higher when the agreement also settles property. Both spouses appear in person at the hearing to confirm their consent.

- Annex to a contract (Bulgaria)
The general annex — it works for any contract in the catalogue. Amending a signed contract has to be done in writing, in the same form as the contract itself, and it must say which clauses change, with what wording, and from which date. An annex that states only what is new, without naming the clauses it replaces, is a common source of argument about what is actually in force.
- Contract of mandate (Bulgaria)
For when you instruct someone to act on your behalf — to represent you before an institution, to manage a property, to negotiate, to receive payments. It differs from a contract for work and from a service agreement in that the agent acts for your account and owes you an account of it. The contract settles the scope, the reporting and the expenses; for acting towards third parties a separate power of attorney is also needed.
- Declaration under Art. 313 of the Criminal Code (Bulgaria)
The all-purpose declaration that institutions and employers ask for most often. You fill in your details and the wording of what you are declaring; the clause on criminal liability for a false declaration is already in the text.
- Declaration of family and financial circumstances (Bulgaria)
Asked for when applying for social assistance, legal aid, a grant, a reduced fee or municipal housing. Many institutions have a form of their own — if there is one, use it; this document is for when there is not, or when you want to prepare the figures in advance. It is declared under liability, so set out your income in full.
- Handwritten will: model to copy out by hand (Bulgaria)
A model text and instructions for a handwritten will in Bulgaria, to copy out entirely by hand. A printed or typed sheet is not a will: a handwritten will must be written wholly in the testator's hand, state the date it was made and be signed after the dispositions (Art. 25(1) of the Bulgarian Succession Act). So the document has no signature box and cannot be signed electronically. The instructions explain the heirs' reserved share and how to hand the will to a notary for safekeeping in a sealed envelope. In Bulgarian.
- Notice of rescission for non-performance (Bulgaria)
When the other side does not perform, the contract does not fall away by itself. Rescission requires a written declaration, and before it one normally allows a further period for performance — so this document first sets out the non-performance and the period given, and only then declares the rescission. It also states what is being asked back: sums paid, items handed over, documents.
