The PDF you download is in German — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

The written power of attorney that lets another person — the buyer of your car, for instance — act for you at an Austrian registration office run by a motor insurer: to deregister the car and hand back the Zulassungsschein and plates, with or without reserving the number, to register it in your name, or to deposit papers and plates under § 52 of the Austrian Motor Vehicles Act (KFG). With both people's details, the vehicle's chassis number and plate, and a period of validity. The same in every Land. Deregistration itself is free. In German, ready to print and sign by hand.

Common questions

What does the agent need to deregister a car at an Austrian registration office?
This power of attorney in the original, signed by hand, the agent's own official photo ID, the Zulassungsschein, the number plates and the Typenschein or individual approval decision where there is one. Deregistration is free. Bring a copy of the principal's official photo ID as well; registration offices often ask for it.
May the buyer deregister the car for the seller in Austria?
Yes, with this power of attorney from the seller, the Zulassungsschein and the plates. That is common when a car is sold still registered. Until it is deregistered, however, the seller remains the registered keeper and must answer every driver enquiry (§ 103 Abs 2 KFG). So agree a fixed day for deregistration in the sale contract and ask to see the confirmation. A seller who wants to keep the number chooses the variant with reservation.
Can a power of attorney for an Austrian registration office be signed electronically?
The registration office requires a written power of attorney, usually the signed paper original. So print it and sign it by hand. Anyone wanting to use a qualified electronic signature with ID Austria should ask the office beforehand whether it accepts the signed file. The power covers only the vehicle named and lasts until the date entered; it can be revoked at any time.
