By when must wages be paid in Romania?

At least once a month, on the date set in the employment contract, the collective agreement or the internal rules (art. 166 of the Labour Code). Late payment can make the employer liable for damages, and failing to pay wages can be fined by the territorial labour inspectorate.

How is overtime compensated in Romania?

First with paid time off within the following 90 calendar days. If that is not possible, the extra work is paid with a premium of at least 75% of the base salary (arts. 122–123 of the Labour Code). Overtime is, as a rule, worked only with the employee's consent.

What if the employer still does not pay after the notice?

A complaint can go to the territorial labour inspectorate and a claim to the tribunal. Wage claims can be brought for 3 years from the date the money was due (art. 171 of the Labour Code), are free of court fees, and it is the employer who must prove payment.
