Standard articles of a single-member limited company (EURL) (France)
If the sole member is also the manager, they can use the official model articles of the EURL free of charge, set by décret n° 2008-1419 of 19 December 2008. This template is for one member, a natural person, manager or not, contributing cash. The company is then set up on the one-stop business formalities portal (formalites.entreprises.gouv.fr), with the legal notice and the beneficial-owners declaration. The articles cover the purpose, name, registered office, duration, capital, shares, manager, the sole member's decisions and accounts. They do not cover contributions in kind, several members, approval clauses or the tax option. In French.
Revoking a SEPA direct-debit mandate and blocking debits (France)
For stopping a creditor's direct debits from your account in France: a subscription, a supplier, a lender. The document, in French under French law, holds two letters to send the same day: the revocation of the SEPA mandate, to the creditor, and the opposition, to your bank, which then refuses every debit from that creditor (article L. 133-7 of the French Monetary and Financial Code). A debit presented afterwards is no longer authorised and is refunded. Revoking the mandate does not end the contract.
Disputing a time-barred consumer debt (France)
For a consumer in France from whom a business or a collection agency claims an old bill: energy, a subscription, building work, a purchase. A business's claim against a consumer is time-barred after two years (article L. 218-2 of the French Consumer Code). The letter, in French under French law, pleads the limitation period, states that it does not acknowledge the debt and asks for collection to stop and the file to be closed. Pay nothing before sending it. Send it by registered letter with proof of receipt.
Request for a termination by mutual agreement (rupture conventionnelle) (France)
A rupture conventionnelle is concluded and approved free of charge online, through the French labour ministry's TéléRC service, and the ministry's site code.travail.gouv.fr has a free model request for a meeting; this document is only the letter that proposes one. For an employee on an open-ended contract (CDI) in mainland France or an overseas department other than Mayotte, it asks for a meeting with a view to ending the contract by mutual agreement (articles L. 1237-11 to L. 1237-16 of the Labour Code), without amounting to a resignation, and can give a preferred end date. Send it by registered post with proof of receipt or hand it over against a receipt. In French.
Complaint to a hospital or clinic (France)
For a patient or relative unhappy with care in a French hospital or clinic: the written complaint to the establishment's legal representative under articles R. 1112-91 ff. of the French Public Health Code. In French, it sets out the facts and the request, and asks for review by the users' committee and a meeting with the mediator, who sees the complainant within eight days of being referred the case. Request for a payment plan for a tax bill (France)
For someone who cannot pay their income tax, property tax or council tax in one go and proposes a schedule to the public accountant. The request can be made free through the secure messaging of your personal space on impots.gouv.fr, or at the counter of the office named on the notice. This French letter is for sending it by post: the sum due, the difficulties, the instalments proposed, and an undertaking to pay future taxes. Ask before the payment deadline.
Request to the landlord for rent receipts (France)
For a tenant in France who needs rent receipts — for a rental application, housing aid, a loan, proof of address — and does not receive them. The French letter recalls that the landlord must give them free, with rent and charges shown separately (art. 21 of the French law of 6 July 1989), lists the periods requested and, if you wish, gives your express consent to receive them by e-mail. Ordinary post is enough; registered post keeps proof.
Resignation letter (France)
The French labour ministry's site code.travail.gouv.fr offers a free model resignation letter. This document is a resignation letter for an employee on an open-ended contract (CDI) in mainland France or an overseas department other than Mayotte: it gives notice of resignation, refers to the notice period set by the collective agreement, the contract or custom, can ask to be released from working it, and asks for the end-of-employment documents. French law prescribes no form; send it by registered post with proof of receipt or hand it over against a signed receipt, to prove the day the notice starts. In French.
Settlement agreement between private parties (France)
For two private persons, or a private person and a business, who want to end a dispute in France without going to court: damage, poor work, a disputed sum, a quarrel between neighbours. The agreement, in French under French law, describes the dispute, each party's reciprocal concessions and the waiver of any action on the same matter (articles 2044 and 2052 of the French Civil Code). A standard form: it does not suit a dispute between employer and employee, or a divorce. Two originals, signed by both parties.
Private sale contract for a used vehicle (France)
For selling or buying a used car or motorbike between private persons in France. The official steps stay free and compulsory: the transfer certificate (Cerfa no. 15776*02), the seller's online declaration on the France Titres (ANTS) site within fifteen days, the crossed-out registration certificate. This contract comes on top of them: vehicle, mileage, price and payment, date and hour of handover, known defects, the hidden-defects warranty kept or limited (articles 1641 and 1643 of the French Civil Code), each side's steps. Insurance cancellation letter: home, car, health, loan cover (France)
For a private policyholder in France who wants to leave an insurer or mutual insurer. After a year, car insurance and a tenant's home insurance are cancelled by the new insurer, and a policy taken out online can also be cancelled online. This letter offers, as you choose: cancellation at any time, after a year, of another policy, such as supplementary health cover, effective one month after receipt (Article L. 113-15-2 of the French Insurance Code; Article L. 221-10-2 of the Mutual Insurance Code); cancellation at the annual renewal date; or cancellation of loan insurance at any time, with the lender's approval of the new policy (loi Lemoine). Formal notice for a hidden defect (France)
For a buyer in France of a new or second-hand item, from a business or a private seller, who discovers after the sale a serious defect that was not visible: a used car, an appliance, furniture. You rely on the guarantee against hidden defects (Article 1641 onwards of the French Civil Code) and choose between a refund against return of the item and a price reduction. Court action must be brought within two years of discovering the defect. In French, to send by registered post with proof of receipt.
Designation of a trusted person — personne de confiance (France)
For any adult who wants to name a relative, someone close or their GP as their trusted person: that person accompanies them in their dealings and medical appointments if they wish, and is consulted if they can no longer express their will (article L. 1111-6 of the French Public Health Code). The designation is written and co-signed by the person named; hospitals offer their own free form on admission. This French document is sold blank, filled in by hand, and revocable at any time.
Letter opting to pay VAT, giving up the VAT exemption (France)
For a sole trader or company under the French VAT exemption scheme (franchise en base) who wants to give it up, charge VAT and recover VAT on purchases (article 293 F of the French General Tax Code). The option can be declared free through the secure messaging of your professional space on impots.gouv.fr. This French letter to the business tax office (SIE) is for sending it by post or reusing its wording: effect from the first day of the month, two-year commitment, request for a VAT number. Minutes closing a voluntary liquidation (France)
For closing the voluntary winding-up of a French SAS, SASU, SARL or EURL once the assets are realised and the debts paid: approval of the final liquidation accounts, discharge of the liquidator and of their mandate, sharing of the balance among the members, custody of the records, finding that the liquidation is closed. The decision is taken by the sole member, the meeting or a deed signed by all. The liquidator then files the accounts and applies for deregistration online on the one-stop business formalities portal, after the legal notice. In French.
Request for an exception to the school catchment area (France)
For a parent who wants their child in a French state nursery or primary school other than the catchment one, in the same commune or another. If the town hall has its own form, free of charge, use it. Otherwise this letter in French to the mayor identifies the child, the catchment school and the school requested, and gives the ground: a brother or sister at the school, work constraints, medical reasons certified under separate cover, or another reason. No exception is a right. For collège and lycée, the request goes to the academic director.

For a claimant or insured person who disputes a decision of their French family allowance fund (CAF), health insurance fund (CPAM), farmers' fund (MSA) or, overseas, general fund (CGSS) — a refused benefit, an overpayment, an amount — in mainland France or the overseas departments other than Mayotte. This appeal is compulsory before any court: it is made within two months of notification (article R. 142-1-A of the French Social Security Code), and two months' silence is a rejection. Request for the landlord's consent to sublet (France)
For a tenant in France who wishes to sublet all or part of the home, short-term lets on a platform included. The French letter asks for the landlord's written consent, including on the price, as art. 8 of the French law of 6 July 1989 requires, states the period, the area and the sub-rent against the rent per square metre of the lease, and carries a consent slip the landlord dates and signs. Complaint to a supplementary health insurer about a reimbursement (France)
For a member of a French mutual, insurer or provident institution who has not received the expected reimbursement from their complémentaire santé. Check your online member area first, often the quickest. In French, the letter identifies the contract, the care and the amount expected, records the steps already taken and names the mediator in the contract, free, to be approached within a year of the written complaint. Sworn statement of accommodation — attestation d’hébergement (France)
For someone in France who houses a relative, friend or flatmate with no bills in their own name: the attestation d’hébergement serves as the housed person's proof of address with the préfecture, the town hall, the CAF or a bank. In French under French law, it identifies the host and the person housed, the arrival date and whether the host owns or rents, and recalls the penalties for a false statement (article 441-7 of the French Criminal Code). Signed by the host, with a copy of the host's ID and proof of address.
Complaint to the CPAM about a reimbursement of care (France)
For an insured person whose care was not reimbursed, or wrongly, by the French local health insurance fund (CPAM) in mainland France, or by the general social security fund (CGSS) in the overseas departments other than Mayotte. The free route comes first: the messaging service of the ameli account. In French, the letter is for when a posted complaint is better: it identifies the care, the dispute and the request, and names the fund's mediator and then the amicable appeals committee. Withdrawal of the VAT option and return to the exemption (France)
For a business that had opted to pay VAT and wants to return to the VAT exemption scheme (franchise en base), its turnover staying below the thresholds. Complaint about a parcel not delivered or delivered late (France)
For a consumer in France whose order never arrived, arrived late or shows as 'delivered' without being received. The letter goes to the seller, not the carrier: the seller answers for the goods until you receive them. You choose either to give the seller formal notice to deliver within an extra period or, once that period has passed, to notify the end of the contract; the seller must then refund everything paid within 14 days (Articles L. 216-6 and L. 216-7 of the French Consumer Code).
