This document is in Italian
The PDF you download is in Italian — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.
For a family that, as a domestic employer in Italy, ends the job of its domestic helper, carer or nanny. In domestic work a dismissal needs no reason (art. 2118 of the Italian Civil Code; art. 4 of Italian Law 108/1990), but the notice of the collective agreement for domestic work must be given or paid in lieu. The letter states the dismissal, the notice, the last day and the final payments. It is not for a dismissal for just cause, nor during pregnancy or the leave that follows the birth. The end of the job is then reported to INPS, free of charge. Hand it over against a signed receipt, or send it by registered post. In Italian.

Common questions
- Can a family in Italy dismiss its domestic helper or carer without a reason?
- Yes. The protections against unjustified dismissal do not apply to domestic work (art. 4 of Italian Law 108/1990): the family may end the contract by giving the notice set by the collective agreement for domestic work, or by paying compensation for the notice not worked (art. 2118 of the Italian Civil Code). A discriminatory dismissal, or one for an unlawful motive, is still void, and the collective agreement forbids dismissal during pregnancy and the leave that follows the birth.
- Can a pregnant domestic worker be dismissed in Italy?
- The collective agreement for domestic work in force since 1 November 2025 forbids dismissal from the start of the pregnancy until the end of maternity leave, or of the father's leave taken in its place, and of any parental leave, except for just cause. This letter is not meant for that period, nor for a dismissal for just cause, which requires stating in writing serious facts that prevent the employment from continuing even temporarily (art. 2119 of the Italian Civil Code).
- After dismissing a domestic worker in Italy, what must the family do?
- Report the end of the job to INPS, online and free of charge, within five days of the end; pay with the last wages the accrued thirteenth-month pay, untaken holiday, the severance pay (TFR) and any compensation in lieu of notice; hand over the last payslip and the statement of wages paid in the year. If the worker lives with the family, it is best to agree in writing the day the accommodation is vacated.

- Employee confidentiality agreement (Italy)

It is not a non-compete clause: it does not restrict future work and sets no penalty. In Italian.

It is for cases where the collective agreement or the company asks for written notice and offers no portal of its own. Send it by PEC to the company’s certified address, by registered post with proof of receipt, or by hand. It holds health data, so it is sold blank and filled in by hand.

The application goes first to INPS, online and free, or through a patronato; this letter then gives the employer the details of the authorisation, with a copy enclosed, and the monthly schedule of days or hours, which the employer may ask for. The letter does not describe the disability. Send it by registered post, PEC or by hand. In Italian.
