Common questions

Will my pay be cut on part-time hours?
Yes, in proportion to the hours worked — that is the nature of part-time work, and the application says so expressly so that it is not a surprise. It also affects insurable income, and through that future benefits.
Can I ask only for a different start and finish?
Yes, and that is not part-time work — the total hours stay the same and only their placement moves. Word it precisely in the application, because the two get confused and the answer comes back to the wrong request.
Can the change be temporary?
It can, and that is usually accepted more readily. The application has a field for a period — a proposal for six months with a review afterwards meets less resistance than an open-ended change of terms.
Is the employer obliged to agree?
As a rule no, but for certain groups of workers the law gives such a request stronger protection. If you fall into one of them, say so in the reason — it changes the weight of the application.
