The part almost nobody knows: the employer must answer within seven days, and silence counts as a refusal. Without written consent there is no termination.

Common questions

How does it differ from giving notice?

Here there is no period to work out — the contract ends on the date both sides agree. But it does not rest on you alone: without the employer's consent the application has no effect and the employment continues.

How long do they have to answer me?

The employer owes an answer within a short period of receiving it; silence is not consent but refusal. If no answer comes, the contract stays in force, and if you want to leave you give notice instead.

Does it affect unemployment benefit?

Yes, and that is the main difference in consequences compared with other grounds. Check how it bears on your own case before signing — once the contract has ended the ground for it cannot be rewritten.

Can I withdraw the application?

Up to the moment the employer has accepted it. After acceptance the termination is agreed between both sides, and undoing it needs the agreement of both as well.
