Paid leave under Art. 157 of the Labour Code is due on specific occasions — getting married, donating blood, the death of a close relative, attending court. Is this leave deducted from my annual leave?

No. Leave under this provision is separate and is due because of the event itself. The application says so expressly, because deducting it from annual leave is a common payroll mistake.

How many days am I entitled to?

The number is set by law and differs for each ground, and a collective agreement may increase it. That is why the days are a field in the application rather than a fixed figure — check your own case and what your collective agreement says.

What document do I have to produce?

The one that evidences the ground — a marriage certificate, a certificate from the blood donation centre, a death certificate, a court summons. The application has a field for when you will produce it, because the event often comes before the paperwork.

What if the event is sudden and I did not apply in advance?

File the application at the first opportunity, with the date of the event. The leave is due because of the event rather than because of a tidy application, but the written request is what turns the absence into leave.
