Common questions

How long does a bank in Moldova have to answer a complaint?
From 1 October 2026, the National Commission for Financial Markets' regulation on complaints requires the providers it supervises, including banks, insurers and non-bank lenders, to give a reasoned answer within 15 working days, explaining the solution adopted. Keep your copy with the registration number: the period runs from receipt.
Who protects a bank customer in Moldova if the complaint to the bank fails?
The National Commission for Financial Markets (CNPF), which has held the mandate to protect consumers of financial services since 1 July 2023 (Law no. 175/2023), and for bank customers since 1 January 2024. The CNPF asks for the complaint to be made to the provider first; with the bank's answer, or once the period has passed, you can turn to the CNPF, attaching the complaint and the answer. The court remains open.
What should be done about a card payment that was never authorised?
Block the card and tell the bank without delay, and at the latest within 13 months of the debit, as art. 56 of Law no. 114/2012 on payment services and electronic money requires. Confirm a phone call in writing with the list of disputed transactions. This complaint suits the other disputes with a bank, such as fees or a blocked account.
