Common questions
- How can a consumer in Moldova file a free petition with the consumer authority?
- Online, through the 'Consumer protection' module of edemocratie.gov.md or the 'Submit a petition' page of consumator.gov.md, where the inspectorate also publishes free model complaints and petitions, with an electronic signature (MSign or a mobile signature). By e-mail it must be signed electronically too. On paper, you sign it by hand and send it through Poșta Moldovei by registered post with acknowledgement of receipt, or hand it in at the registry. A petition without a name, an address and a signature is not examined.
- How soon does the inspectorate have to answer a consumer's petition?
- Within 30 days of registration under the Moldovan Administrative Code; the period may be extended by up to 15 days, and the petitioner is told of the extension. Keep the registration number or the eDemocrație confirmation: the period runs from registration. If the trader still refuses to pay you back, the money is claimed in court.
- Should the trader be contacted before the inspectorate?
- That is the route eDemocrație offers: the complaint goes straight to the trader first, who examines it within 14 calendar days, and if the problem is not solved you file the petition with the inspectorate from the same account. If you have already written to the trader, say in the petition what you asked for, when, and what the answer was, and attach copies.
