Common questions

How long does a seller in Moldova have to repair or replace a faulty product?
A reasonable time of at most 14 calendar days from the day you told the seller about the fault and handed over the product, or the period agreed with you. If the seller does not do it, you may ask for a price reduction or for rescission of the contract and your money back. Rescission is not available for a minor non-conformity, one that does not substantially affect the use of the product.
What can a buyer in Moldova do if the shop ignores a complaint about a defect?
The trader examines the complaint within 14 calendar days and must give any refusal in writing; silence after that period counts as a tacit refusal. Free of charge, you can also send the complaint to the trader through the 'Consumer protection' module of edemocratie.gov.md, without an electronic signature, and from there petition the consumer protection inspectorate, which needs one. A money claim can also go to court.
Can a product without any defect be exchanged in Moldova?
Yes: within 14 days of purchase you can ask for a non-food product of proper quality to be exchanged for a similar one, if it is unused, keeps its qualities and you can prove the purchase, for example with the receipt. Goods on the list of items that cannot be exchanged, such as underwear, cosmetics and jewellery, are excluded. This complaint is for products that do not conform, not for exchanges.
