The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

The written report asking Greece's Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection to mediate in a consumer's dispute with a business. The Authority was set up by Law 5255/2025 and absorbed the Consumer Ombudsman (Συνήγορος του Καταναλωτή). The report gives the consumer's and the business's details, what happened, what was already done to settle it and what is asked for, states that no court case is pending, and is signed and sent with a copy of an ID, as the Ombudsman required.

Common questions

What became of Greece's Consumer Ombudsman?
Law 5255/2025 set up the Independent Authority for Market Control and Consumer Protection, which absorbed the Consumer Ombudsman, the market-inspection unit ΔΙΜΕΑ and the consumer directorates of the General Secretariat of Commerce. The Ombudsman carries on inside the Authority as its Consumer Ombudsman deputy division (Υποδιοίκηση Συνηγόρου του Καταναλωτή), which takes reports and mediates in individual disputes between consumers and businesses, ending in findings and recommendations. The old regional conciliation committees have been abolished.
What does the Greek consumer authority need before it looks at a dispute with a business?
The consumer goes to the business first and, if that fails, files the report. It is safest to follow the rules that applied to the Consumer Ombudsman: a written, signed report with a copy of an ID, no court case pending on the same dispute, and filing without delay — the Ombudsman required that no more than a year had passed since the consumer learned of the problem.
Is the Greek consumer authority's mediation binding on the business?
No. Mediation ends in findings and recommendations, which do not bind the business, though they often lead to a settlement. If none is reached, the courts remain — for sums up to 8,000 euros under the small-claims procedure. A breach of the law can also be reported, by name or anonymously, at kataggelies.mindev.gov.gr or on 1520, for inspection and fines rather than compensation.
How and where is the report to the Greek consumer authority filed?
Until the Authority publishes a route of its own, the one the Consumer Ombudsman has used since 7 April 2025 applies: online, through the form on synigoroskatanaloti.gr after logging in with Taxisnet credentials, attaching the PDF; or by post or in person at Leoforos Alexandras 144, 114 71 Athens — no longer by e-mail. For a paper copy, the signature can be certified free on docs.gov.gr. Check the details on the website before sending.
