Why it matches: You cancelled a contract but the firm keeps debiting your account, and you want its debits blocked.
Austria · in German
Your instruction to your own bank in Austria about a direct debit or a standing order: have a SEPA direct debit refunded, dispute a debit taken without a valid mandate, stop an announced debit, bar a payee's future debits or delete a standing order (Dauerauftrag). An authorised SEPA direct debit is refunded within eight weeks with no reason needed (§§ 70, 71 of the Austrian Payment Services Act, ZaDiG 2018), an unauthorised one within 13 months (§ 65 ZaDiG 2018). With payee, mandate reference, amount and date. In German.
Notice cancelling motor liability insurance (Austria)
Why it matches: You want to cancel your car insurance in Austria at the end of the insurance year.
Austria · in German
The letter cancelling your motor liability insurance in Austria in the four most common cases: at the end of the insurance year (§ 14 Abs 2 of the Austrian Motor Liability Insurance Act, KHVG) — the anniversary of the policy's start, not necessarily 31 December, with the notice arriving a month before — after a premium increase (§ 14a KHVG), after a claim (§ 158 VersVG), and after buying a used car whose insurance passed with it (§§ 69 ff VersVG). With the policy number and plate. In German, ready to print, sign and send by registered post.

Why it matches: You want to cancel your home contents or personal liability insurance in Germany.
Germany · in German
A letter cancelling your home-contents, personal liability, legal expenses, buildings, accident or pet liability insurance in Germany: with ordinary notice at the end of the insurance period, within one month of a premium increase (§ 40 of the German Insurance Contract Act, VVG), after a claim, or, for contracts of more than three years, at the end of the third year (§ 11 VVG) — each time, failing that, for the earliest possible date. It revokes the direct-debit mandate and asks for confirmation of the end date. Motor insurance has a document of its own. In German.
Cancelling a gym contract or subscription (Germany)
Why it matches: You want to cancel your gym membership in Germany and stop the monthly payments.
Germany · in German
A letter cancelling a gym contract or another running subscription in Germany — a membership, a magazine, a streaming or delivery plan. You give ordinary notice for the earliest possible date, or terminate for good cause under § 314 of the German Civil Code (BGB), such as a lasting illness with a doctor's certificate; you revoke the SEPA direct-debit mandate from the end date and ask for confirmation of it in writing. For contracts since 1 March 2022, at most one month's notice applies after the first term (§ 309 No. 9 BGB). In German.
Cancelling motor insurance (Germany)
Why it matches: You want to cancel your car insurance in Germany and switch to a cheaper insurer at the end of the year.
Germany · in German
A letter cancelling your German motor insurance with your current insurer: at the end of the insurance year, early after a premium increase or a claim, or after buying a used vehicle whose policy passed to you (§ 96 of the German Insurance Contract Act, VVG). For all cover or for the comprehensive cover only, asking the insurer to confirm the end date and refund any unused premium. For most policies, a cancellation for 31 December must reach the insurer by 30 November. In German, ready to send.
Notice to the motor liability insurer of the sale of a car (Austria)
Why it matches: You have deregistered the car you sold and want the prepaid premium refunded.
Austria · in German
The letter telling your motor liability insurer in Austria that you have sold your car, as § 71 of the Austrian Insurance Contract Act (VersVG) requires: with the policy number, plate, chassis number, date and hour of handover, the buyer's name and address and the day of deregistration. It asks for the premium to be settled and prepaid premium refunded to your account, or for the policy to move to a replacement car, and for a confirmation of your claims record. Austria has no notice of sale to an authority. In German, ready to print, sign and send by registered post.
Asking your bank to refund a direct debit or cancel a standing order (Germany)
Why it matches: You want your bank to cancel a standing order, for example after moving out or ending a contract.
Germany · in German

A SEPA core direct debit can be reclaimed within eight weeks of the debit with no reason given (§ 675x of the German Civil Code, BGB), and a debit taken without a valid mandate up to 13 months later (§§ 675u, 676b BGB). A standing order or an announced debit can be revoked until the end of the business day before it is carried out (§ 675p BGB). With the payee, mandate reference, amount and date. In German.
Revoking a SEPA direct debit mandate (Germany)
Why it matches: You have cancelled your gym membership in Germany but they keep taking money from your bank account.
Germany · in German
A letter to the payee — a gym, insurer, club, mail-order shop or debt collector in Germany — revoking your SEPA direct debit mandate (formerly Einzugsermächtigung). It gives the mandate reference, the creditor identifier and your IBAN, forbids further debits from receipt, and says how payment continues: you will pay by transfer, the contract has ended, or you will pay from another account. Revoking the mandate ends neither the contract nor what you owe. If a debit still arrives, your bank refunds a SEPA core direct debit within eight weeks, no reason needed (§ 675x of the German Civil Code, BGB). In German.
Revocation of the waiver of the small-business VAT scheme (Germany)
Germany · in German
The letter to the German tax office (Finanzamt) that returns a business to the small-business scheme of § 19 of the German VAT Act (UStG) after it had waived the scheme and charged VAT. The waiver binds for at least five calendar years and can then be revoked only from the start of a later calendar year. The letter names the year of the waiver and the year from which the scheme should apply again, and states that turnover stays within the €25,000 and €100,000 limits. Germany has no ‘VAT deregistration’: this is the route. In German.
Special termination of an electricity or gas contract after a price rise (Germany)
Why it matches: A letter about higher energy prices has just arrived and you want to cancel before the new price applies.
Germany · in German

Outside basic supply this rests on § 41(5) of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG), in basic supply (Grundversorgung) on § 5(3) of the StromGVV or GasGVV; basic supply can also be ended at any time on two weeks' notice. With customer and meter numbers, supply address, date of the price notice, a fallback notice for the next possible date and a request to confirm the end date in text form. In German.
Landlord's termination for rent arrears, with ordinary notice in the alternative (Germany)
Germany · in German
A landlord's notice in Germany when the tenant is behind with the rent: without notice under § 543(2) of the German Civil Code (BGB) and, at the same time, ordinary notice in the alternative under § 573(2) no. 1 BGB — because if the tenant pays up, only the termination without notice falls away (BGH VIII ZR 106/23). The letter states the ground and every unpaid month, sets a date to hand the flat back, objects to a tacit extension and tells the tenant about the objection in text form. In German, to print and sign by hand by every landlord.
Revocation of a power of attorney, with notice to third parties (Austria)
Why it matches: You want to cancel an authorisation you signed and get the document back.
Austria · in German
The letter revoking a power of attorney — at any time and without reasons (§ 1020 of the Austrian Civil Code, ABGB) — and asking for the document back. It is also the notice to banks, authorities and other parties: anyone who, through no fault of their own, does not know the power has ended is protected (§ 1026 ABGB), so each receives a copy. It takes effect on receipt — hand it over against a signature or send it by registered post. It cannot end a registered lasting power (Vorsorgevollmacht), which ends only on entry in the ÖZVV register. In German.
Closing a current account, with or without switching banks (Austria)
Why it matches: You are leaving Austria and want your bank account, cards and overdraft ended in writing.

A letter to your bank in Austria closing your current account (Girokonto), whether you are leaving altogether or moving to a new bank through the account-switching service. It gives the IBAN, the account holder and date of birth, the closing date and the account for the remaining balance, ends the cards, overdraft and online banking linked to the account, and asks for written confirmation. Under the Austrian Payment Services Act (§ 51 ZaDiG 2018) you may terminate at any time, on at most one month's notice, and free of charge for an open-ended account. A choice covers switching under §§ 14 ff VZKG. In German.

Why it matches: You bought something online from a shop in Austria and want to cancel the purchase.

The withdrawal notice for an online purchase, an order by phone or catalogue, or a contract made away from the trader's premises in Austria: you withdraw within 14 days without giving reasons under § 11 of the Austrian Distance and Off-Premises Contracts Act (FAGG) and ask for your money back. The model withdrawal form in the FAGG's annex is free and works just as well; no form is prescribed, and sending in time is enough. For contracts made online from 1 October 2026 the shop must also offer a withdrawal function (§ 13a FAGG). In German, ready to sign and send.
Notice closing a current account (Germany)
Why it matches: You are leaving Germany and want to close your bank account, cards and online banking before you go.

Under § 675h of the German Civil Code (BGB) you may close the account at any time without notice, unless a notice period of at most one month was agreed, and closing is free. A letter ending your household contents, personal liability or legal-expenses insurance in Austria: at the end of the insurance period or term; under § 8 Abs 3 of Austria's Insurance Contract Act (VersVG), for a contract of more than three years, on one month's notice for the end of the third and each later year; or after a claim. With policy number, type of insurance, start date, revocation of the direct debit and a request for written confirmation. Motor insurance has its own document. In German.

Why it matches: You want to cancel your gym membership in Austria at the earliest possible date.

A letter ending a gym contract or a running subscription in Austria — a magazine, a membership, streaming or a delivery plan. You give ordinary notice for the earliest date; for a magazine or delivery plan, notice under § 15 of Austria's Consumer Protection Act (KSchG), two months before the end of the first year and then of each half-year; notice for good cause such as illness or pregnancy; or notice for the original end date where you were not reminded before an automatic renewal (§ 6 Abs 1 Z 2 KSchG). After the minimum term, at most one month's notice applies. With customer, contract and phone numbers, revocation of the direct debit and a request for written confirmation of the end date. Why it matches: A salesperson talked you into signing a contract at your front door and you want to cancel it.

A letter withdrawing from a purchase made online, by phone or by catalogue, or from a contract signed at your door, in Germany. Under §§ 312g and 355 of the German Civil Code (BGB) a consumer may withdraw within 14 days without giving reasons. The letter carries everything the statutory model withdrawal form asks for — order date, date the goods arrived, order number, the goods, your name and address — in its own words, and asks for the refund within 14 days and a confirmation of receipt. In German, ready to send by e-mail or post.
Withdrawal from a sale or price reduction after a failed repair (Germany)
Why it matches: You want to cancel a purchase in Germany and claim your money back after a failed repair.
Germany · in German
The second step of a complaint about faulty goods in Germany. If the seller did not repair or replace the goods in time after being told of the defect, the defect returned after a repair, or the seller refused, you declare withdrawal from the sale or a reduction of the price (§§ 437 and 441 of the German Civil Code, BGB) — when buying from a trader, without a further deadline (§ 475d BGB). With purchase date, defect, ground, amount to refund, deadline for payment and IBAN. In German.

Tenant's notice ending a residential lease (Germany)
Why it matches: You have found a new home and want to end your current tenancy as soon as possible.
Germany · in German
The letter a tenant in Germany uses to end a residential lease. Under § 573c of the German Civil Code (BGB) the tenant's notice period is three months: notice that arrives by the third working day of a month ends the tenancy at the end of the month after next. The letter gives notice to the chosen date, or else to the next possible one, and can invoke the special rights after a rent increase (§ 561 BGB) or a refused sublet (§ 540 BGB). Written form is required (§ 568 BGB): print it and have every tenant sign by hand — by e-mail it is void. In German.
Objection to an electricity or gas price change (Austria)
Why it matches: You want to object to a price change in writing and ask the supplier to confirm when the contract ends.
Austria · in German
E-Control, Austria's energy regulator, offers a free model letter for this. This document is your own objection to a price or terms change announced by your electricity or gas supplier in Austria. For electricity, households can object within four weeks of receiving the notice, free and whatever the binding period (§ 21 of Austria's Electricity Act, ElWG); the contract then ends after the statutory period, on the old terms until then. Outside a binding period you can also give two weeks' notice (§ 24 ElWG). Gas is governed by the GWG 2011. With customer number, metering point and a request to confirm the end date. In German.
Final deadline for withheld pay before leaving early (Austria)
Why it matches: Your salary keeps arriving late or only in part, and you have had enough.
Austria · in German

Leaving over unpaid wages without such a deadline has been held unjustified, so this letter is the first step. It also meets the forfeiture deadlines of the collective agreement. With a receipt for hand delivery. In German.
