Common questions

Who is liable for a package holiday from Liechtenstein that went wrong, in a complaint in German?
The organiser, for every service in the package, even where a hotel or airline it booked was at fault (Art. 12 Abs. 1 PRG). It owes a price reduction for the time things were wrong and compensation for the damage, for lost enjoyment of the holiday only where the problem was significant (Art. 13 PRG). Where the problem was an unconnected third party's unforeseeable doing or unavoidable and extraordinary, the compensation falls away but the price reduction does not; where it was your own doing, neither is owed.
Must problems be reported during the trip, for a package complaint in German in Liechtenstein?
Yes. Tell the organiser without undue delay while you are away (Art. 12 Abs. 2 PRG); a report to the travel agent you booked through counts too (Art. 14 PRG). Not reporting can count against you as contributory fault (Art. 13 Abs. 2 PRG). Keep photos, receipts and messages.
How long does a traveller in Liechtenstein have for a package complaint in German?
The law sets a limit, and an agreement shortening it below two years is void (Art. 13 Abs. 6 PRG), so write soon after you are home. If the organiser is established in Liechtenstein and does not settle, the Office of Economic Affairs (Amt für Volkswirtschaft) settles the dispute free of charge. Organisers must secure refunds and repatriation in case of insolvency (Art. 20 PRG).

For passengers in Liechtenstein whose flight — from Zurich or another airport in the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland — arrived three hours or more late, was cancelled less than 14 days before departure, or who were denied boarding. The letter, in German, claims the fixed compensation of Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, which is part of the EEA Agreement: €250, €400 or €600 per passenger, by distance, from the airline that operated the flight. The airline's own form is free. Complaints go to the enforcement body of the country of departure (for a flight from a third country, of first landing): for Zurich, the BAZL.

Many issuers have a free online dispute form; ask the trader first.

The letter to the seller when goods you bought in Liechtenstein are faulty: you rely on the statutory warranty (Gewährleistung), ask at your choice for repair or replacement and set a dated deadline. Under the Consumer Warranty Act (KonsGG) for consumer purchases from a business since 1 March 2026, otherwise under §§ 922 ff. of the Civil Code (ABGB). Note: for purchases from 1 March 2026 the rights lapse three months after the two-year warranty period; for earlier ones you must sue within two years of delivery. The letter alone stops neither. In German, to sign and send by registered post.

  • Flight delay or cancellation compensation claim (Liechtenstein)

For a passenger whose flight arrived three hours or more late, was cancelled with less than 14 days' notice, or who was denied boarding, on a flight covered by Regulation (EC) No 261/2004: every flight from an airport in the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, and flights into them on an airline from one of those countries. The letter claims the fixed compensation — €250, €400 or €600 per passenger, by distance — from the airline that operated the flight. The airline's own claim form and the EU complaint form are free and do the same job. Send it by registered post and keep the receipt.
