For passengers in Liechtenstein whose flight — from Zurich or another airport in the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland — arrived three hours or more late, was cancelled less than 14 days before departure, or who were denied boarding. The letter, in German, claims the fixed compensation of Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, which is part of the EEA Agreement: €250, €400 or €600 per passenger, by distance, from the airline that operated the flight. The airline's own form is free. Complaints go to the enforcement body of the country of departure (for a flight from a third country, of first landing): for Zurich, the BAZL.

Common questions

How much can a passenger from Liechtenstein claim with a letter in German for a delayed flight?
Per passenger, €250 for flights of up to 1,500 km, €400 for longer flights within the EU and for other flights of 1,500 to 3,500 km, and €600 for other flights over 3,500 km. The airline may halve it if it rerouted you and you arrived only a little later than planned, and owes nothing for extraordinary circumstances it could not have avoided, such as bad weather.
Does Regulation 261/2004 apply to a passenger from Liechtenstein claiming in German?
Yes. The Regulation is part of the EEA Agreement (Annex XIII), and it covers every flight from an airport in the EU, Iceland, Norway or Switzerland, and flights into them on an airline from one of those countries. You claim from the airline that operated the flight. Keep receipts for meals or a hotel you paid for while you waited.
Where can a passenger from Liechtenstein complain if the airline refuses a claim in German?
Liechtenstein has no enforcement body of its own for the Regulation. Complain to the airline first, then to the enforcement body of the country you flew from, or, for a flight from a third country, of the country where it first landed: for Zurich the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (BAZL, bazl.admin.ch), for German airports the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (lba.de). Neither collects the money for you; for that, a claim goes to the competent court.

Many providers have a free online dispute form that does the same job; ask the trader first.
