The addendum by which a landlord and tenant change the rent under an existing Romanian tenancy. The rent cannot be raised unilaterally: the new amount, the date it applies from and the confirmation that the rest of the agreement stands are signed by both. The landlord registers the change with ANAF within 30 days on form C168.

Common questions

Can the rent under a Romanian tenancy change without a signed addendum?
No. Between private individuals the rent is a term of the agreement and changes when both sides agree, which is why the addendum is signed by both. If they cannot agree, the most the landlord can do is end the agreement, in the cases and with the notice the agreement or the law allows.
Must the rent addendum be registered with ANAF?
Yes. The landlord reports the change to the tax office within 30 days, on the same form C168 used to register the agreement. The tax record then shows the new rent, and the registered agreement remains the enforcement title for the rent agreed.
From when does the new rent apply?
From the date written in the addendum, which may come after signing — the first day of the next month, for example. The old rent is paid until then. The other terms of the agreement, including the payment day and the deposit, stay as they were.
