The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

A Greek private agreement for selling a used car between individuals, written for the rule that applies now: the agreement does not transfer the car. Ownership passes with the digital transfer on gov.gr, the only route between private persons since 27 April 2026. So it binds the seller to start the transfer and the buyer to accept it by a set date and within 30 days of handover, before the seller's insurance lapses, and puts fines on the buyer from handover. It gives the price in words, the known defects and the two-year limitation period of art. 554 of the Greek Civil Code, and can be signed online on docs.gov.gr.

Common questions

Does a private car sale agreement in Greece transfer ownership of the car?
No. Ownership of a private car passes by the parties' agreement recorded on the registration certificate (art. 16 of Greek Law 2753/1999), and between private persons that has been done, since 27 April 2026, only digitally — on gov.gr or through a citizens' service centre (KEP): the seller starts the transfer by entering the buyer's tax number (AFM) and the buyer accepts it. Until then the seller stays the registered owner. The agreement binds both to complete the transfer by a set date.
Why does the seller keep the insurance and circulation tax up until the transfer in Greece?
Because the digital transfer only goes through for a car in circulation, with no circulation tax owing and a valid roadworthiness test (KTEO) where one is due, and until then the car is registered to the seller. The seller's policy, though, ends by law 30 days after possession or ownership passes (art. 8(2) of Greek Presidential Decree 237/1986) — 30 days after handover, if handover comes first. So the agreement requires the transfer within that time; with its certificate the buyer insures the car, and the seller claims back the unearned premium.
How can the Greek car sale agreement be signed without visiting a citizens' service centre?
Through the Digital Certification of a Private Agreement on docs.gov.gr, free: one party uploads the PDF and names the other by tax number (AFM), and both sign with their Taxisnet credentials. The certification has the same force as a signature authenticated at a citizens' service centre (art. 27 of Greek Law 4727/2020). It is not a qualified electronic signature. Otherwise, sign two paper copies, with the signatures authenticated at a service centre if wanted.
How long is the seller of a used car in Greece liable for a defect that shows up after the sale?
The seller is liable if the car does not conform to the contract (arts. 534 ff. of the Greek Civil Code, as amended by Law 4967/2022). The buyer's rights over a movable thing are time-barred after two years (art. 554), counted from handover, even if the defect appeared later (art. 555). The seller is not liable for defects the buyer knew of when signing — which is why the agreement lists them, and why they are worth describing precisely.
