Handover record for a sold vehicle (Greece)

This document is in Greek
The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.
The record of the moment the buyer took the car: date and hour, odometer reading, fuel, keys, documents, accessories and condition. In Greece it matters more than elsewhere: handover can come days before the digital transfer on gov.gr, the transfer records no handover at all, and until it is done the seller remains the registered owner — and the one fines are sent to. The record proves who had the vehicle, and from when fines and damage are the buyer's — and handover starts the 30 days after which the seller's insurance ends.

Common questions
- Why is a handover record needed in Greece when the transfer is digital?
- Because the digital transfer records only the change of owner on the register, not the moment the buyer took the car. If handover comes before the transfer, the seller stays the registered owner and camera fines go to the seller. The record, with its date and hour, backs the solemn declaration in which the seller names the driver — due within only seven days of service — and the seller's claim against the buyer.
- Which documents does a seller in Greece hand over with the car?
- Usually the registration certificate, the roadworthiness (KTEO) certificate, the service book, the manuals and anything on warranties or repairs. The record lists them one by one with the number of keys, so that what was handed over cannot be disputed later. The insurance is not handed over: the seller's policy ends by law 30 days after handover or transfer, whichever comes first, and by then the buyer must have insured the car in their own name.
- Does the Greek handover record replace the private sale agreement?
- No. The agreement sets the price, the deadline for the digital transfer and each side's duties; the record notes only the handover and refers to the agreement by its date. Neither transfers ownership, which passes only with the transfer on gov.gr. Both can be signed free with the Digital Certification of a Private Agreement on docs.gov.gr.
