Open-ended employment contract (Greece)

The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.
A Greek employment contract with no end date, written for the Labour Law Code (Presidential Decree 62/2025) and the 2025–26 changes: job and duties, place of work, hours, gross pay in figures and words, the holiday bonuses and leave allowance, probation of up to six months and how the contract ends. It gives the essential terms in writing, as the law requires within one week, and sets out the ERGANI II steps: the contract itself is no longer filed, but since 16 February 2026 the employee must accept the hiring notice before starting.

Common questions
- What has to happen in ERGANI II before a new employee in Greece starts work?
- The employer files the digital notice of hiring (Ψηφιακή Αναγγελία Έναρξης Εργασίας) in ERGANI II before work begins. Since 16 February 2026 the notice is valid only once the employee accepts it in the myErgani app before starting, or signs its form, which the employer uploads; work without a valid notice counts as undeclared. Since Law 5239/2025 the contract itself is no longer filed in ERGANI II.
- How long can probation last under an open-ended contract in Greece?
- Up to six months, if agreed. On top of that, during the first twelve months after hiring the employer may end an open-ended contract without notice and without severance pay, unless the parties agreed otherwise. The termination must still be in writing and declared in ERGANI II.
- What minimum wage must a Greek employment contract respect?
- From 1 April 2026 the statutory minimum wage is €920 gross a month for full-time work. It is reset every year, which is why the contract refers to the statutory minimum rather than to a figure. Where a collective agreement sets higher pay, that applies, and in every case the Christmas and Easter bonuses and the leave allowance are owed on top.
- How can a Greek employment contract be signed when the employer and employee do not meet?
- Free of charge, through the digital certification of a private agreement on docs.gov.gr (Ψηφιακή Βεβαίωση Ιδιωτικού Συμφωνητικού): one party uploads the PDF and names the other by tax number (AFM), and each signs with their Taxisnet credentials. The certification has the force of a signature authenticated by a public office, but it is not a qualified electronic signature.
