The PDF you download is in Greek — that is the language it has to be filed in, so it is not translated. Everything on this page is here to tell you what it says.

The letter in which an employee in Greece resigns: date of hiring, job, last working day, and a request to settle pay, leave and bonuses and to issue a certificate of employment. Since Law 5239/2025 the resignation that counts is the declaration in ERGANI II within four working days, and the employee may file it personally in myErgani, with no co-signature from the employer. The letter is the dated proof of the decision.

Common questions

Is a resignation letter enough in Greece, or must the resignation be declared in ERGANI II?
The resignation that counts is the declaration in ERGANI II, filed within four working days. Since Law 5239/2025 the employee may file it personally in myErgani, and the employer no longer co-signs. If the employer files it, the employee must confirm it digitally, or the employer must serve an out-of-court notice. The letter remains as dated proof.
Does an employee who resigns in Greece have to give notice?
Yes, after twelve months' service. The notice is half the period the employer would owe for a dismissal, so it grows with years of service, and never exceeds three months (art. 348 of the Greek Labour Law Code, Presidential Decree 62/2025). The letter states the last working day instead of working out a period; check the contract or collective agreement too before choosing the date.
What must the employer pay an employee who resigns in Greece?
Pay earned up to the last day, compensation for annual leave not taken, and the pro rata share of the holiday bonuses and the leave allowance. No severance is owed, because it is the employee who ends the contract. The letter asks expressly for the final settlement and for a certificate of employment under art. 678 of the Greek Civil Code.
How can a resignation in Greece be sent electronically so that it cannot be disputed?
Sign the PDF free of charge on docs.gov.gr with the digital document certification service (Ψηφιακή Βεβαίωση Εγγράφου), which has the force of a signature authenticated by a public office, and e-mail it to the employer. The gov.gr certification is not a qualified electronic signature. If it is handed over on paper, ask for a signed acknowledgement on your own copy.
