How is a Polish telecoms contract ended after the promotional term?

Unless the subscriber objected, a fixed-term contract rolls over automatically, and it can then be ended at any time on one month's notice (art. 305 of the Electronic Communications Law). At least 30 days before the term ends, the operator must say that the contract will roll over, how to end it and what its best offers are.

What does it cost to end a Polish telecoms contract before its term is up?

The operator can claim back the discount given when the contract was made — a reduced monthly fee, say — but reduced in proportion to the time since the contract began; it cannot charge a larger penalty. Remaining instalments on a phone or other device bought on instalments must be paid separately. It is worth asking the operator to calculate the amount before giving notice.

For how long can a Polish operator sign a consumer to a fixed-term contract?

No more than 24 months, and the operator must also offer the consumer a contract of no more than 12 months (Electronic Communications Law). A contract made at a distance or away from the shop can also be withdrawn from within 14 days without giving reasons. It is worth keeping the contract and the price list from the day it was signed, as they set any discount to be repaid.
