Common questions
- How much notice does a Swiss mobile or internet provider require?
- No statute sets it; your contract and the provider's terms do. Minimum terms of 12 or 24 months are common, often with a discounted phone, as are notice periods of one to three months; some providers have neither. Cancelling before the minimum term ends usually means paying the fees until it ends. Check the period in your customer account or contract papers, and send the notice in good time.
- How does number porting work when I leave a Swiss mobile provider?
- You ask the new provider, not the old one, to transfer the number. Check whether the new provider ends the old contract for you as part of the transfer; if it does, you do not need this letter, and cancelling yourself before the transfer can put the number at risk. The old contract's remaining minimum term and notice period still apply when you port.
- Where can I turn in Switzerland if a telecom company ignores my cancellation?
- First write to the provider, enclosing a copy of your notice and the registered-post receipt. If you cannot agree, ombudscom, the telecom industry's conciliation body, mediates between customers and providers before any court is needed. The Swiss consumer foundation SKS regards automatic renewals hidden in the small print as unfair (Art. 8 LCD); in French-speaking Switzerland the FRC advises consumers.
