Assignment of copyright
Paying for a work to be created does not by itself transfer the rights in it. The contract settles which rights are assigned, for which territory, for how long, exclusively or not, and whether the assignee may pass them on. Without those terms a client pays for a logo or a text they then cannot use freely, and the author loses control without having meant to.
Demand for payment of an overdue invoice
A reminder by email is a courtesy; a demand is a document. It lists the invoices separately by number, date and amount, shows the total owed and sets a final deadline. Send it before too long has passed — the older the invoice, the more often the other side claims the work was disputed at the time.
Notice to terminate a service agreement
Ending a retainer or an ongoing service needs written notice within the period the contract sets — otherwise the contract renews and the charges carry on. The notice identifies the agreement, the termination date and the notice period, and settles the three things that are argued about afterwards: the final payment, the materials to be returned, and the accounts and access that have to be closed.
Annex to a contract
The general annex — it works for any contract in the catalogue. Amending a signed contract has to be done in writing, in the same form as the contract itself, and it must say which clauses change, with what wording, and from which date. An annex that states only what is new, without naming the clauses it replaces, is a common source of argument about what is actually in force.
Service quotation
The first document a client sees, and the last one they come back to when there is an argument about what was promised. The quotation sets out the scope, the price and the timescale — and also how long it stays valid, without which old prices get produced months later. It states plainly what the price does not include, which heads off the most common falling-out at the start of a job.
Agreement for payment by instalments
For when a debtor cannot pay in one go but can pay in instalments. The agreement acknowledges the debt, sets a repayment schedule with dates and amounts, and settles what happens on a missed instalment — usually that the whole balance falls due. For the creditor it beats silence; for the debtor, enforcement.
Non-disclosure agreement
Signed before negotiations, before taking on a subcontractor, or before giving access to internal information. What matters is not the prohibition itself but the three things around it: what exactly counts as confidential, which exceptions are recognised, and how long the duty lasts after the relationship ends. An agreement without those three is hard to enforce.
Service agreement
For ongoing work with no clear end product: consultancy, maintenance, bookkeeping, training, a support retainer. It differs from a contract for work in that what is owed is an activity rather than a result — so what is agreed here is scope, frequency and response time, not the acceptance of a finished thing. Agree what is expressly outside the scope as well.
Receipt for a discharged debt
The document a debtor should ask for at the moment of the final payment, and then keep. The receipt identifies which obligation has been discharged, with what sum, and that the creditor has no further claim under it. Without one, a debt that has been paid goes on existing on paper — including if the creditor assigns it to someone else.
Demand for voluntary payment
A written demand is the step at which a debt stops being a conversation and becomes a matter of record. It identifies the obligation and the ground for it, gives a specific deadline, and states what follows if it is not paid. Send it so that there is a trace of its receipt — recorded delivery with a signature, or a notarial demand if the sum justifies it.
Complaint about a poorly performed service
A complaint about a service follows a different logic from one about goods: nothing is returned, and what you ask for is that the work be done again, that the defects be put right, or that the price be reduced. The document sets out what was agreed, what was delivered and which of the three you are choosing — the choice is yours and has to be stated, or the trader makes it for you.
Request for erasure of personal data
The right to be forgotten under Article 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation. It is not unconditional: data the organisation keeps by law, for accounting, or to defend a legal claim stay. So the request names exactly which data and on what ground, and asks for a written answer — including when the answer is a refusal, so that there is something to appeal against.
Complaint to the Commission for Personal Data Protection
The step to take when a controller has not answered your request or has refused it without good reason. The order is the same as in consumer disputes: first a request to the organisation, then a complaint to the commission with a copy of the correspondence attached. A complaint with no prior request is usually sent back, because there is no refusal to examine.
Dispute of an unauthorised payment transaction
Where a payment was not made or authorised by you, tell the bank at once — delay shifts the risk onto you. The dispute describes the transaction by date, amount and payee, says where the card was at that moment, and asks for the money back. File it in writing with a reference number, even if you have already phoned the call centre.
Request for a refund for a service not performed
You paid in advance and the service was never performed — a trip cancelled, a tradesman who never came, a course that never started. The request states what was paid, when and for what, establishes that the service was not provided, and sets a period for the money to be returned. Attach the proof of payment: without it the argument turns into whether there was a payment at all.
Notice of rescission for non-performance
When the other side does not perform, the contract does not fall away by itself. Rescission requires a written declaration, and before it one normally allows a further period for performance — so this document first sets out the non-performance and the period given, and only then declares the rescission. It also states what is being asked back: sums paid, items handed over, documents.
Subject access request
The right under Article 15 of the General Data Protection Regulation: to find out what data an organisation holds about you, where it got them, who it gives them to and how long it keeps them. The request is free and goes straight to the controller, not to the regulator. Word it specifically — a blanket request for everything usually comes back with the least that will do.
Objection to processing for direct marketing
Marketing calls, messages and letters stop on an objection under Article 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation. Unlike the other rights, there is no balancing here and no exceptions: on an objection to direct marketing, processing for that purpose ends. The document lists the channels separately, because unsubscribing from the newsletter does not stop the phone calls.
Application to terminate employment within the probationary period
While an agreed probationary period is running, the party in whose favour it was agreed may end the contract with no notice and without giving a reason. The application identifies the contract, the termination date, and that the ground is Art. 71 of the Labour Code. Check your own contract for whose benefit the probationary period was agreed before filing it.
Application to change working hours
For moving to part-time hours, for a different start and finish, or for a flexible arrangement. The change affects an essential term of the employment contract, so it is put into effect by a written amendment — and part-time hours reduce pay proportionately. The application proposes a specific arrangement and the date it should start.
Application to withdraw a notice of resignation
A notice cannot be withdrawn unilaterally — once it has been given, withdrawing it needs the employer's agreement. That is why this document is an application rather than a notification, and why it should be filed as early in the notice period as possible. It identifies the notice by date and asks expressly for written confirmation that the employment continues.
Request for a copy of the employment contract and its amendments
You need it when applying for a loan, in a dispute about a post or about pay, or simply because your own copy is lost. The employer keeps the personnel file and issues certified copies of what is in it. The request lists the documents you are after by name, because a generally worded one usually comes back with a single sheet.
Application to work remotely
Remote work is not settled by a spoken arrangement — it is written into an amendment to the employment contract, which fixes the place of work, the working hours and who provides the equipment. This application puts the request in writing and proposes a specific arrangement, rather than leaving everything to be decided afresh the next time management changes.
Application for unpaid leave
Unpaid leave is not an entitlement — it is granted by the employer, so the application has to be in writing and has to carry a decision on it. State the exact period and the reason, because whether the time counts towards length of service and insurance depends on how long it is. File it early enough for someone to be able to cover your work.
